Help - travel question

I normally take synthroid upon waking at 6 am. However, I will be taking a month long trip across 12 time zones. I don't know whether I should adjust my time so I take it when I wake up (which is convenient re empty stomach and no eating for an hour) or should I take it as I would back home and adjust the time so I would be taking it at 6pm instead (which is very inconvenient for eating and empty stomach). The third option (I guess) would be to adjust the time a few hours and take it at 3pm. Which one?

I am doing the exact same trip New York to Paris France and have been told by pharmacist to just take in the am the same time as usual on an empty stomach.  It seems on an empty stomach is the priority - Did you get the same advice.  Would love to know as I am leaving in 12 days.

Hi,
I can relate here as I came across this problem while travelling as well. I remember my Naturopath saying to me to just take it the following morning, the same time as you normally would at home, so that's what I did.

I haven't traveled through time zones since being on this med but what helsurf said is what I've been told.  If there ends up being a gag between doses the half-life aspect will be enough to sustain you.  If there ends up being an overlap of doses the increased amount over one time wouldn't be enough to harm you.  Hope that makes sense.

Have a nice trip.  Good luck.

Hi,

I've been i this situaion and i took my hyroxine in the morning even though it was 6 hours later than i would normally take it. It won't make a lot of difference because of the long half life of T4 and is more convinient empty stomouch wise :) I take high thyroxine for cancer suppression and when i got back i had my levels checked and they were fine so if i was you go ahead and take it in the morning :) have a good Trip!

This has come up before with members.

I believe many thought just sticking to the waking up in the morning and taking it is best to stay on regardless of time change.

I don't travel much at all. I have never been in that situation to wonder.
