Sorry my phone posted before I was done. I won't know the full extent of it for a few more days as it takes a while to build the serotonin back up, but someone suggested I try it so I am. The tryptophan also helps me sleep at night too. Not a lot, but better than I was getting. These remedies may not work for everyone, but so far it's keeping me somewhat sane. I hope this helps. Just hang in there. It will get better. It may just take a while.
Hello. Before I get started let me say, thank you for serving our country. I myself am on day 11 sober from vicodins. I tapered down and had very little physical withdrawal, but I've been paying for it in spades with the mental withdrawal. Depending on how much you used and for how long, your brain will take time to fix itself. I have found that a steady intake of amino acids, specifically l-tryptophan, is good for destabilizing your mood. It is the key ingredient to making serotonin, a neurotransmitter that gets disrupted during opiate use. It regulates your mood. Hi and Welcome to the Forum,
Good for you for reclaiming your life from the pills! I know it isn't easy. What you are experiencing is common as your body and brain are struggling to readjust after the opiates. Are you exercising? Taking any vitamins or supplements? The fatigue and anxiety are tough but exercise really helps with both. I can't stress this enough. You have to re-train your brain and body and get it producing natural endorphins again. If you aren't taking antidepressants Valerian root (all natural) is great for anxiety. I've been clean for 36 days and I increase my cardio exercise daily. I'm still not sleeping great but it has brought my energy levels up considerably. Also-whey protein shakes are really helpful with the brain healing..it's the amino acids. Hope this helps. Hang in there and keep posting.....Lu
