trying to quit hydrocodone

Hi i just stumbled on this site and have not read all the post.Im just amazed that there are alot of people that has the same problem as me.

I have always consider myself strong mentally and i have to admit that i met my match.I am having such a hard time kicking the pain pill habit (hydrocodone 10-500).

I just started 2 days ago doing the tapering off trick.I have been taking Immodium AD and lots of Gatorade.Ive been drinking so much of it i go to the bathroom every 20 minutes LOL.I really hope i succeed quitting for the guilt that i have is too much.I love my family and i really feel that im letting them down.

Wish me luck and any tip is appreciated.

Good for you for having the controll to taper off!  That's what I'm trying to do but I am really struggling.  It's only 8:30am and so far I'm hydro free but we'll see how long that lasts.  I am at work and it's so hard to get through the day once I start feeling hot/cold flashes, tummy aches, sweating, etc.  Ugh!  All the posts above helped, I will hit a store and get some apple juice and Imodium because I'm sure I'll need it.  Ilyo, you are NOT ALONE!  So many people are going through exactly what you are right now - me included.  Stay strong.  Positive thoughts.  You will get through this and it won't kill you even though it feels like it will at times.

Thanks Leanne. So far diarheaa (sp??) and headache are the main problem. However i do feel the hot and cold feeling (flu symptoms),depression and anxiety.I was taking 18 pills daily and now im down to 12.I know its still alot but my goal to cut down 4 pills every week until im down to a regular dose of 2pills/4 hours.I had problems with my lower back and shoulder is why i started taking pain meds and before i realized it i was taking more just so i dont feel pain.So far i dont have leg cramps and i'll get apple juice when i go to the store next time.Thank you for your reply.

Hi!  You're doing good!  Just keep staying hydrated and taking the immodium.  Are you having any other symptoms of WD?  There are other OTC things you can get if you're experiencing symptoms.  A short walk every day will help a lot if you are able.  I know you may be having low energy, but the walk will actually help that.  Also, I drank apple juice when my legs cramped.  Helped a bunch because it's loaded in potassium.  Also, don't forget to eat some bland food like cereal, soup or toast.  It's really important even though you may not feel hungry much of the time.

Good luck!!!  You'll get lots of help here, so hang around! : )
