14 months

I just realized its been 14 months since I've been  in recovery. So glad I don't stick a needle in my arm anymore. Yes I'm still at the clinic but I'm slowly tapering off this freakin methadone. I'm so proud to say I haven't relapsed.baby steps!

Progress over perfection reminds us to place principles over personality. I'm glad your recovery program is working for you. When I was using subs to get off street methadone, I received lots of fear base advice, don't think it was judge mental, but it gave me a negative feeling. I was deal close to death, so I had to take baby steps, leaps and bounds were not possible. Point being, there is no wrong way to get clean, but fear of abuse makes opinions a bit biased, mine included. Fact is, you are using methadone for what it was originally made it legal to prescribe. Compared to nodding with a rig in your arm, you have made tremendous progress. Congratulations. I think those of us with large underlying issues need a transition and you are making the most of it.

It made me aware of how much I have grown, when you said I gave objective info on methadone. Thanks for that. I was thinking back, I hated that med and would have banned it early on. I guess now I see things more the way they are. The drugs are merely tools. Like a locksmith, he can use his lock picking and key making tools for good or bad, it is the intent and outcome that really matter. Your results are awesome, so I am glad I could give objective info, you really helped me witness my own growth. Thanks and never stop growing. Nothing alive stays the same, so live and always make progress your measure.

As for the trauma, I know a little about that. Take your time working on those issues. Remember, you get your whole life back, so there is plenty of time to work all that out. I bet you live at least 20 extra years with the needle behind you, so take time to take inventory that is focused on the good stuff. My grandmother always saw the good in everyone. A group of bikers would roll into my yard as a kid, a close friend of my parents usually had just got out of prison. My grandmother would sit ther and point out the good qualities of some pretty extreme people. She inspires me, so I try to do the same, especially in looking at myself. Take care of yourself, take what helps, leave the rest, but never back down from a fight with your own heart. It keeps getting better and better, that's a promise from the good hands people. You may not get the reference of that, but it made me chuckle out loud just now, so I'm gonna leave it. I am happy for you and it feels good to see the Higher Power working it's majik in you.

Sweetie this is awesome.  You are doing the work and I know how hard it is to confront the trauma.  I did (and continue) to do EMDR therapy and CBT to deal with my PTSD from an abusive marriage (sexual and emotional) and medical trauma.  The EMDR is incredibly powerful because it helps you revisit the trauma and create safeties.  This actually helps change your neural pathways so that you don't experience the Fight Or Flight which is the big trigger for addicts to use.  Look it up.  It totally saved my life.  Not only am I healing but I am in the most loving relationship I've ever been in- with myself.  I also have a wonderful man in my life and am going to start a family with him.  Something I thought impossible in my broken state nearly 3 years ago when i got sober.
Methadone is rough for sure but with your positive attitude and determination to work your recovery, I feel that success is yours for the taking!
Proud of you...
Lu

Thanks guys! Just hate all the neg comments sometimes. I'm only on the methadone cuz I'm on probation and I know if I wasn't on it I would be shootin up and gettin high! And I don't wana go to prison! Now that I'm in NA and therapy I'm realizing what my addiction was stemming from( my molestation, rape and physical abuse)trama  I suffered as a child. I was a very angry adult. My therapist, pschologist and counsler have really helped! But I'm weaning down so I can be truely sober. Thank u to the many people on here that have helped and weaver explained a lot about addiction and methadone to me without being judgemental! Thanks guys!!
