16 days clean

Hi all!
I wanted to check in with my fellow MH peeps. I have been pretty quiet but actively reading daily. I can honestly say the first week of detox was easier then the mental effects I am going thru now. I have never experienced depression like this. I just can't seem to find interest or joy in anything. I force myself to work (have no choice) then come straight home to stay. The only fun few nights I've had were under the influence of alcohol. Learned a hard lesson a few times because the depression after a night of drinking was insane. I am still on the search for a therapist because I know I need help. If you can share some tips or supplements that can help with extreme low mood and depression, I would greatly appreciate it. I take 30 mg of cymbalta once a day. That is definitely not working! I can't wait for my brain to heal. I know it takes time but this depression is kicking my ***!

Hey congratulations on day 16 !!!
Well done  :-)
Yes unfortunantly i agree, definante exercise and healthy eating. Lots of Salmon !!!
You could take a vitamin D supplement, if we are not getting enough sun, this will cause depression, i take 1 a day of 1000IU.
Its fine to take with your a/d.
A good quality multi mineral/vitamin has everything the body needs to balance out.
Still early days remember, your brain has a lot of work and healing to do over the coming months.
Just remember, this shall pass, we all go through it.
Keep your chin up, your doing a great job!!

Thanks everyone so much. I realize I just need to push myself to exercise and stop laying around. I will also eat more fruits and veggies. I can't let the anxiety and depression paralyze me. That's basically what I am doing. I will continue to knock em down as digger said! 17 days tomorrow. I will continue moving forward like all of you. Just needed some support and advice today and ya'll made me feel better! congrats to all of you on sober living. hugs!

Hi Iwant, first congrats on the 16 days!  Depression at this point is very normal. I went through it as well. I totally agree with Digger.  Exercise, and healthy eating is the best thing for you right now. I hate to exercise, but I found that the more I got outside, even for short walks, and the better I ate, the less depression I felt.  Exercise will also help with fatigue and restlessness and sleep issues. Give it a try. I promise you that you will notice a difference. Keep moving forward each day.  Take care!

I have heard good things about l-tyrosine, but do not take this if you are on any type of anti-depressant.  Exercise and hydration.  Eat healthy. Listen to your fave music, dance around the house singing at the top of your lungs.  Watch your fave funny movies.  Just keep moving forward - you are doing GREAT!  You will get thru this just as u got thru the physical WD's.  It's hard, but keep moving forward.  Anything positive - pray, journal, call clean friends, meetings.  You GOT this!  Keep pushing my friend!

The best thing is exercise my friend. I know your thinking I can't be bothered with that, or you just don't feel up to it but honestly its the best thing for low moods. I tried every supplement going and after the placebo effect wore off I realised quickly nothing worked. Eating healthy, plenty fruit, veg and lean meats give you all you need.

Good therapy can be amazing too, its good to talk everything through and even if they give you advice you pretty much already knew, its nice to be reassured you know.

Congrats on your 16 days, keep knocking them down.

Keep your head up, you got this, ;))
