I am very new to this forum....I don't know how much you've done...but when I was pregnant my teeth fell apart. I was constantly perscribed percocets. Fortunately I wasn't able to keep them down. Try your damndest to get off. They are pretty much out of your system in a couple of days., if your not doing alot. Again depending upon what you done, is whether or not your going to have to tell the doctor. You can do it!!!!I I'm sure, you don't wantt your baby to suffer.
" Also will they test the meconium & if so, they may find marijuana (I smoked once), will CPS get involved after they see that along with the opiates? "
Drug testing laws on newborns vary from state to state, but generally no, not all newborns have their meconium tested at birth. Usually there would have to be either admitted or suspected maternal use or a positive maternal drug test, or other factors surrounding the birth, such as "precipitous" birth which is defined as a labor less than 3 hours, a placental abruption in the absence of other risk factors, which is very common in users of all forms of "uppers" like cocaine, meth, etc. They will also usually do a urine test along with the meconium.
Since meconium is stored in the bowels of the fetus for the duration of the pregnancy, traces of drugs can accumulate over long periods. So if a woman quits using pot a month before birth and she herself tests clean with a urine test, her baby could still have a positive drug test from the meconium. Mec testing is great for knowing what a woman did for the duration of her pregnancy, from about the 5th month on.
"When I tell my Ob on Tue, does anyone kno FROM EXPERIENCE if I can get "in trouble" for taking them w/o a prescription? I kno it's illegal but will there really be a problem if I'm coming to them in honesty for concern about my daughter? "
There are many that come to this forum with the same issue and question. Ive yet to read what anyone has said about after they had there baby however many update us after they are honest with there docs and said it went fine and that there docs were very understanding and helpful.
Nobody is here to judge you or give you negative feedback. Im responding more to bump your question up as it seems to have drifted to the bottom. Hopefully some mothers who had the same experience can and will chime in.
Good luck to you.
Always,
ABN
Hi there- Did you just start using them recently? It's not clear...and are you an addict or did you take them for pain or both?
I can't tell you that your taper plan is okay...but it's a good idea to tell your doctor on Tuesday. That's always the right way to go...
I doubt that this will be a big deal with the doctor but I don't really know...If this was a brief thing that's one thing...If you've taken Percocet for the entire pregnancy, that's a whole other thing and that's more serious for you and your baby.
Any wd's you feel, the baby feels. Please be careful tapering and ask your doctor how to taper properly...
