34+3 Hrydocodone

I am 34 weeks and currently reside in the state of Tennessee. I was told today by my ob that I tested postive for hydrocodone and i have read on here you all saying I should tell my doctor but I cant. I just need to know if when I have my child since I tested postive just this one time will they take my baby away from me? Does anyone know the state laws here for that?

It is very important for the baby's safety that you tell your OB.  That way if the baby has wd's they will be prepared.  Have you been taking hydro's for awhile?

You say you "can't"......regarding talking to the med professionals.

You say you tested positive "just this one time"?????

Are you saying you don't take them daily??  That your body is not depending on them, and therefore, your unborn child won't be affected even tho YOU are testing positive?  If you are testing + then your unborn child will too, right?

If your OB told you, then haven't you already let "the cat out of the bag?"  Did your OB say more to you than just "you tested positive?"  Surely he/she was concerned???   What will they do if you choose not to discuss it further with them?  I think their oath requires them to "protect the innocent".

Fear should absolutely NOT be the motivation in your heart......but LOVE....for your unborn dependent child and love for YOURSELF!

The secret will keep you in a "prison of your own".....your sweet baby does not deserve to come into this world withdrawing from a narcotic....

It is hard enough for grown adults to withdraw........Hell....at times.  But at least we are old enough to know we did this to ourselves and accept responsibility for how we got ourselves in this boat.  A baby doesn't have that choice in the womb.
.
Child services MUST protect your sweet baby if you are not willing to or "can't" talk about it NOW.  It will affect your entire future, your child's future....

If hyrdros have this hold on you now......it will only get worse.
I promise....no matter how hard this is......you will love yourself and most of all love your child MORE if you know HOW it works.
H>honesty
O>open-mindedness
W>willingness

You CAN do this.......it will be really hard......but if you deal with it right now, you won't have to have future regrets, crisis situations that you "can't" handle.  Plus, I'm pretty sure there would be a "safe" way to make changes in your usage so as to be safe for your unborn child.

Most of us on here ARE addicts; the cycle, the things we tell ourselves.....they are all the same.  Many things differ......but not the cycle and the lies we tell ourselves.

"I pray that I may learn from the mistakes of others, as I won't live long enough to make them all myself".

I pray this for you dear one!

i just wanted to show you some support, you are in a difficult situation.  But it doesn't have to end badly.  Since your doctor already knows, the hard part is really over in that sense.  I believe if you explain to them your situation, commit to getting off and do it, not only for yourself, but for your baby, everything will work out.  Of course the state would never want to take someone's baby away, but they will and do do it everyday if there is a reason too.  And drugs are a main reason mothers lose their children.  Try not to worry about that so much right now though, and instead focus on getting and staying sober.  Asking help from your doctor is a good next step, especially because you are pregnant. You can do it!

I agree 100%.  You actually have no choice.  Are you planning on lying about your result?  There are lots of ways a doc can test you to find out what you've been taking, and how much.  Do NOT try to lie about this.

I know you're scared, but trust me, telling your OB is the only way to go, and actually, you would have been MUCH better off had you told her before you were drug tested.  What prompted the tox screen?  I didn't think that was a normal pasrt of prenatal screening.

If you don't tell your doctor, not only are you putting yourself in a precarious situation with the possibility of CYS getting involved, but also, you're putting your baby at risk.  In order for your baby to be properly detoxed, the medical team needs to know the whole truth.  To be very honest, your responsibility is to that baby, you don't have the option of being selfish because you're scared of the consequences.

You may be very surprised....docs deal with this kind of stuff all the time.  They will be MUCH more willing to work with you if you come clean to them, versus trying to lie about it.

Very best to you.

You can't tell your OB? I'm confused. He's the one who told you that you tested positive...
Yes, if you don't speak with the medical team about this you can be assured you'll be contacted by social service.

Are you planning to taper off? Do you have a plan?

Hi petey, so is it safe to assume you are not being prescribed Hydrocodone by a doctor? What did you say to your OB when you were told you tested positive? I don't know the procedures for testing in your state, but I'm sure they will monitor and test the baby especially in light of this positive test! You simply must talk to your doctor about this! I don't see any other way! Try not to be afraid, they see this all the time! If you don't talk to your doctor and advise them of your situation, then you are facing some big problems including possibly losing your child! Plus, they will be prepared and able to take care of your baby should there be any problems! Please consider talking to your doctor and being absolutely honest! You can do this!

Please keep posting and let us know how your are, and what happens! Best of luck!!

Hi,I don't know laws in Tennessee, I'm in NY yet all child services laws are state mantorary to follow, they protect the unborn and newborns and children.
If this is something you're been taking the Dr will draw the baby's blood to see amts,as 2nd trimester opitates are stored in baby. If positive, I can pretty sure children services will be notified,it'd their job to take babies into a clean environment.
Why can't you tell your Dr,is it cause you don't want too?your Dr may be a blessing or a curse if u tell him or him, either what you choose the medical team will know. Don't be surprised if you get a call from a social worker.
Best of luck:-)
