Day 5.5 Still tough!!!!

Well, here is day 5.5.....I usually do not make more than three days so even though it is only a couple of days, I have already broken many records of the past!  I am still only sleeping about 4 hours then I wake up and toss and turn the rest of the night....The lack of sleep is really getting to me....I am feeling a bit better but I still have energy issues and am wrestless without the energy to do anything about it.....For me I think the worst part of days 5, 6, and 7 is that due to the lack of sleep and the way time just creeps by when being awake for 20 hours a day takes a toll on you.  These days you feel better but you are tired of being sick and tired!  Luckily I have eliminated all sources to the option to relapse is not available.  I can see why I relapsed so many times after only a few days to get some relief from the effects of detox....BUT.....I am still strong and hanging in there.....I just put one foot in front of the other and make sure I just keep going.  I want to clarify something I said in an earlier post....Alcohol is NOT a good idea.....The other night I went out and had two cocktails and I felt great.....Last night I did the same thing and I did not feel that great....Matter of fact I forgot to take my last dose of my suppliments last night and felt worse this morning so note to self.....One night alcohol for relief....ok....two nights....bad bad bad......I am getting closer and closer to my weekend of in-law's and my fence building operation and I am by no means up to necessary levels to accomplish this task yet so hopefully I will feel better within the next couple of days.  Like I said the sleep thing is REALLY getting to me......How long does the sleep thing last for?  Will I feel better within the next couple of days?  I am definitely thankful that I am doing as well as I am doing right now but it is still miserable and relentless!

Well.....I just wanted to write a quick line or two and wish everyone out there going through this to stay strong and keep posting.....It helps me considerably and I hope that we can all laugh out loud a year from now sober and feeling great.....God bless!

Thanks for the support.....I am truly lucky I think.....I jumped off of a 120-140mg hydro/oxycodone daily habbit and it really has not been that bad.  It has been miserable but I have had worse.  I have been concentrating on my supplements and exercise and have been chugging massive amounts of water.  When I detoxed off of methadone I did not sleep for three weeks!  I think I am going to try the trazadone one night to see how it works but you are probably right that the effects will be mild.  I am actually getting more and more excited every night....Each night I look forward to just a few hours of sleep where my symptoms are not noticable.  The next day I wake up and I get to add another number to my days sober.  I did not get in any exercise today but tomorrow I will ride my exercise bike......Thanks all for the kind words of encouragement.....This detox and situation is different and I actually know I am going to make it this time!  I still need to get into an AA meeting but maybe tomorrow at lunch I will go hit a random one!  I always hate walking into those places for the first time....Thanks all!

Honestly, if you are sleeping that much on day 5, you're doing great!  It took me two weeks to sleep that much, and it was usually an hour at a time when I did.  Your sleep will come back.  If you can MAKE yourself move around more, that will help.  I wouldn't bother taking the trazadone.  I know it's tempting, but I have seen members say that early on it made them tired but still not able to sleep.  Kinda like benadryl.  Take a dose of Nyquil.  If the valerian and melatonin are helping you get to sleep, consider yourself fortunate.....seriously!  Lots of people would do anything to sleep as much as you are this early!  And congrats on your 5 days!  That is SO great!!!

Your pretty lucky that your getting some sleep. Just go with it. My restless legs were awful and then all if a sudden one night they were gone(day 17 or 18). I got no sleep my first week( maybe 12 hours total in 6-7 days). It was awful. You seem to be doing all right. Everything I've read(which is alot) says that sleep is the last thing to return so if your getting a little sleep and it's day 5 u should be ok pretty soon. Good luck.

Thanks....and dominosarah you are right.....I was complaining around the office about not being able to sleep....My friend said that he had some sleeping pills.....It is addict behavior....I am going to give them a try for one night....They most likely will not work and if not I will flush the rest.  My sister is addicted to sleeping pills and is currently trying to get off of them so I am not going to take more than a couple...Yes, I have been using valarian root and melatonine and it gets me to sleep but nothing is helping with keeping me asleep....I wake up everynight around 2 or 3.  I guess that is pretty decent considering I am only on day 5.5.....Also, every once in a while I think about swallowing some pills....the thought actually makes me want to vomit!  I have never felt like this before about hydro's.....I guess that I am just miserable and it is because of those nasty little pills.....Well....I might not even take the sleeping pills, the last thing I want is to take anything that might jeopardize my sobriety.....Thanks all!

Time is your best friend right now justneedtotalk - so trust that and please try not to use any other substances outside of the vitamins/supplements to get you through.  I don't want to see you end up disappointed if you're not feeling better in "x" amount of days - sadly, it just doesn't work that way.  You have to force yourself to believe right now I know, but please, just go slow for the time being and allow the process to happen.  In a few weeks you'll start to turn that corner, you will, and sleep will eventually return to normal as well.  Have you tried the melatonin yet for sleep?  It works really great for me and many of the members here.

Hang in there - I know you can do this!  :)

Getting your hands on some meds without a script from the doctor is addict behavior.  The sleep thing is nasty and makes you feel rotten, i do so remember that but that is all part of this.  The more you get up and move around the quicker you will get your natural endorphins working.......sara

I don't think anything greatly helps during the first week for sleep. I think it's kind of up to your body and mind to regulate itself and the only way it can truly do that is with time. I could be wrong but nothing worked for me, including OTC sleep aids, Xanax, etc. I didn't try what you are talking about but I just had a feeling that there was nothing I could do except wait. I'm still waiting for totally regular sleep here on day 23. It's alot better than it was but I'm not quite there yet. Feeling great though. Keep with it and good luck. It will get better, I promise u that.

trazodone is an antidepressant, and can cause dependancy, i know youve only got a few, but be careful, they wont knock you out ,may make you feel a bit drowsy, are you just going to use them once or twice?, i only twice take two, no more, best wishes,

I was able to get my hands on a couple of Trazodone 50 mg sleeping pills.....I have only taken a sleeping pill once in my life.  Do they work during day 5-6 sleeping problems?  I only have a few but a good night sleep could REALLY help out?  How many should I take to ensure sleep but not take too much?  I really hope they work.....I am just dying for some regular sleep....Any comments welcome!
