Addicted to vicodin and don't know how to tell my doc

i am a 29 yr old mother of two.  i have what i think is a serious addiction to vicodin.  i cant get it from my doc anymore so i get it from a family friend.  i have tried twice getting off of it. i take what most would say is a small dose but for me is pretty intense since it puts me into major withdrawls when i have tried getting off or when i run out.  i need help but my doc is a major tight a@%. how do i approach him. i am in the process of getting into a mental health program, but its going to be a while, otherwise i could talk to them. what do i do? PLEASE HELP!!!

No one in my family knew about my addiction,  I am the mother of 3. i was so scared for my family to find out that I went through withdrawals on my own. My family eventual found out, some of them accepting some of them not. Just concentrate on ur recovery. As far as me when my doctor found out he discharged me from his clinic. I however got the prescriptions illegally. Mental health was a big issue for me, and without it I don't think i could have made it this far. Good Luck with everything and I wish u the best

Hi and welcolme. This is a great site. Everyone is helpful & knowledgable. But of course always check w your dr on major health situations.if you can't stop on your own( taper or cold turkey) then you can talk to your dr, then you will feel better (maybe) and she/he can help you. Sometimes it's the hardest thing to do but they (Dr's) see Thai all the time. When I called my family dr in the middle of the night in a panic attack, he was surprised but calm and told me what I needed to hear. I'm currently tapering very slow but haven't had any WD.  I'm a mom of two also so I know how that affects the picture. I think of my kids all the time.

You need to be honest with your doctor and ask him to help you. He may help you taper down and since you wern't taking a huge amount you may be able to just do C/T as it would only take about 3 days for that amount. I will pray for you and hope you make the decision to get clean as you will get your life back. God Bless---Rick

yes he was. i was originally prescribed it for a shoulder injury. then by my dentist for my teeth, then by him again. for the last four months though he would only give me flexeril for my shoulder and has no idea that i even take the vicodin.  i take between 4 and 7 5/500 a day depending on how many the person gives me
