Alprazolam and depression

I took Alprazolam last weekend for anxiety and saw a pattern of abuse.  I threw away the leftovers.  I've been depressed for the last three days.  How long does the depression usually last with alprazolam withdrawal?  Also how long before the insomnia goes away?  I may not be anxious, but the depression is the pits.

Yes, I took several 2mg pills a day; combined with somas, oxys and whatever else I could get prescribed for me. When one would run out, I would juggle the others. Ugle cycle. Xanax was also my DOC whenever I tried to commit suicide. They are really bad for me. Really bad.

I have been on anti-depressants for a number of years so I live with depression and addiction - to xanax and anything else that is addictive.  Yeah, I only took the xanax for 3 days but I took enough to have it alter my brain chemicals.  Well it sounds like I need to ride it out and see if the depression lifts in a day or two or then get back to the Dr and readjust my anti-depressant.  Spring is here so the extra sunlight helps.  Sleep deprivation is a bummer.  But as they say...nobody ever died from lack of sleep.  Thanks for all of your kind words.  It's glad to know I'm not the only one - sortamental you sound like you took them like I did.  One was never enough...

If you only took it a week then your problems are not from the xanax. The problems usually come from taking it 2 weeks or more and abusing the dose. Are you sure this is the problem or have you taken it a longer amout of time. With Benzos as Xanax if you have taken them for a long length of time it takes many months to recover your sleep and you can have depression and other W/D during this time. But if only for a few weeks then something else is going on.

You should not feel depressed for too much longer..you just took them for 3 days...perhaps you may need to address the depression with your doc as it could be the reason that you take too many xanax...good luck and keep posting

I agree with poetry.

Xanax is bad stuff! For me, taking xanax always MADE me depressed, so I thought "hey take some more!". And more and more until I was out of it. It was a vicious cycle for me. Maybe xanax has the same depressive reaction with you too?

Okay, so you took a great deal of it for a short time.  Thank God for the short time part, but it is really addictive.  I was already addicted to opiates when I started taking xanax and I tried to quit a few times and just couldn't even though I took opiates.  I was depressed and couldn't sleep.  Normally you need some kind of buffer to ween from xanax.  This time they gave me phenobarbitol for just a few days, then I weened from that.  If you feel you are still having w/d I think you should see a doctor and just say "hey look I took these, and they're still haunting".

I wish I could say it was for the LAST time.  Whenever I take it I can't stop until I pass out.

You took it last weekend for the last time?  I'm confused.  How long of a period of time did you actually take xanax?
