I posted about using methadone as short term detox a couple minutes ago, anyone with similar experiences? I would love some advice right now as it is a scary journey...

Hey there, just wondering how your experience went with coming off? are you clean now?
Reason I ask is that I am at a fork in the road.. I am a 120-160mg a day oxycontin user. I have been hooked for a year and a half. I kicked them back in august for 8 days only to return to my old ways.I too was considering using methadone for 5 days. I have heard of only one success story (i cant be sure he was telling the truth- his brother did confirm it though). I also called a detox centre and the nurse said that they perscribe methadone in small dosages and taper down for 4-5 days. Afterwards, she explained that the withdrawal will not be as sever and more 'flu like'.  I do not believe her. My counsellor who does not know much about specific withdrawal and drugs used for treatment did inform me that the methadone route can lead to devastating consequences. I need HELP. I have been living with this addiction for a year and a half and no one in the household knows. I work 30 hours a week with 3 day weekends. I am considering booking off 2 days and trying to find a doctor who will perscribe me a drug called clonidine.
I got off of the O.C using clonidine (which i got from my boyfriend), muscle relaxers and marijuana. Since becoming addicted again my dosage has nearly doubled and I fear an even worse w.d. Did anyone get off of opiates using clonidine or any other mitigating drugs? If so, what? and how well did they work?  How long have u been using and what do you use?
I am so desperate to get clean. I do not want to pro long my recovery by using different kinds of opiates. I feel like going from oxy to methadone is no different than swtiching from Oxy to Heroin. You wouldnt perscribe an alcoholic whos drink of choice is Wine another form of liquor like Vodka to get sober.... So why treat opiates with more opiates??

Love the comment on 10 to 20 mgs a day are you talking about the Subs and or the Meth? My plan is about = to that - that high of an amount, ive got 5 days off oxys, and ive taken about 1 8mg Sub each day in 1/4s .No more than that and so far so good, it has helped and im scared to death to get strung on these and at the same time i have no more time off , i took a week of my vacation time to do this,.I tried last yr and failed,I gave up. Just didnt have it in me.Today i do. It helps alot to hear ths..Thanks much. I remember you from last time too. Your very kind...any and all information is greatly appreciated

I have used methadone for pain..no high..felt normal tho..which for me is good sometimes!  LOl  COL   iwas afraid of using sub for detox cos i do get a jolt off that drug/liked it too much and did not want it in my pharmacy records...i have seen people use it sucessfully for a week-2 weeks max @ 10-20 mgs a day.. to help with detox and avoid addiction...like sub..use it long enuf and u will be hooked on it...it can be used to lesend wd but at somepoint u have to put the pills down and go with it on ur own...if u hang onto amaintenance drug like sub or meth/it bcan become ur DOC..then u must taper and wd off of that..it is hard for an addict to put down a drug that takes the mental side effects away like these 2 will do for most..then  u have to go it alone/but with tons of support and aftercare to get thru the mental part cos if u stay on these drugs long enuf to kick all of that u will be addicted to them

I too felt it at the begining of my 30 day detox program, i was actualy nodding off after i loaded up on it like days 3 -8 and then it went the other way..Wished i would have let that be the last one i ever did.I have gotten better, Didnt use for almost 9 yrs and then was stupid enough to eat vics and oxys for 2 yrs, and here i am on day 4.No fun..Its all just to real..I cant believe i did this to myself again after all that time , and with a Drs blessing to boot..Prescribed..

I absolutely get very euphoric off methadone.  and have been on opiates for 10 years

Methadone won't get an opiate abuser high; it regulates their messed-up endorphin system and holds down cravings. As a short-term detox, it's probably useful, but you're still going to be uncomfortable coming off meth.

Long-term maintenance leads to long, long tapers and more grief than you bargained for.

I don't feel "high" from the methadone though, what makes it so alluring to people?

its hard because so many people including myself will go into the metthadone thinking they will only use it for a week or so and then years later still on it
i am a fan of short acting opiates vs. matience, i am a bigger fan of inpatient detox

All methadone is going to do is keep the w/d's away until you stop the methadone, then your going to have opiate w/d's. Trust me it doesnt work and alot of the times either makes it harder or leads to a stronger addiction. Please take the advice and get rid of the methadone, in my experience its the single hardest opiate to detox from.

I was on a long couple yr run years ago on Heroin and went for a 30 day Meth detox that helped me get thru the worst part of withdrawls, however i had a couple weeks of feeling it for sure but nothing like what it would have been, I think the trick is to get off quickly and walk thru the soreness and teh yawns and the sneezes and teh upset stomache and lack of eneryg.You have to give some enrgy out,walk keep occupied and talk to people like right here.That was my experince,i have also failed a few times as well.YOu have to really want it.
