How long before feeling strong?

This question is about cravings. I am a heroin addict ten days clean. I live in a major city where heroin is readily available. The only way I could get clean was to go stay with fam 500 miles away in the sticks where I know I won 't be tempted and don't have transportation. It just so happened that it was a point in my career, a career I have been working on for nine years, that I could work from home for the summer. But once the summers over I have to go back to the major city and work. I can't give up this oppurtumity because I worked too hard for it but my hope is that ater 75 days of sobriety I'll be strong enough to resist in a way that I know I couln't at this point. Last time I was on dope before this recent nine month relapse was nine years ago when I got pregnant and quit. At that time my cravings went away pretty quick but i think it was cause I had a life in me. My question is how long in you alls experience is it before those intense cravings go away and do you think I'll be ok to go back to the belly of the beast in 60 days? I don't want to have to get knocked up again just to stay clean. Ha ha

Honey  you can set up an IOP program before you leave your family in the "backwoods"  :)   or NA mtgs  or group meetings     just google before you leave and have a plan and commitment solidified prior to hitting your home turf.

You  sound so dedicated to the life you deserve....  please don't let your conviction leave you......

My best thoughts and wishes are with you.  Please let any of us know if you have any concerns or question, and please keep posting.  You have a lot of life experience that may save someone's life........  by sharing your story and what does work for you in maintaining sobriety.  You are a strong woman      please  claim the life you so very much deserve.

Right now this forum is my only treatment. Here I'm surrounded by my family and don't have any acess to drugs so I'm ok but when I go home it had occurred to me that I should be in some sort of treatment program. You are right. I was clean nine years and ended up relapsing so I guess no matter how much time passes, the possibility is always there. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Are you involved in any aftercare programs i.e  NA/AA?   Living in  a major city I would hope you have opportunities for long term aftercare treatment.   If possible an Intensive Out Patient Treatment would be recommended in addition to group programs.   They are available at all hours of the day and night which should accomidate your career and other commitments as well.  Most importantly  severe all ties with any and all  contacts that give you access to your doc.    Even the so called good friends.

Best of luck to you,  please stay focused on what you want out of life.   When do the cravings go away?   I think there may always be a situation  that will cause you to crave, missing the ability to numb yourself with drugs.   Never forget, that is not a real life  and not what you really want for your life or family.
