I'M Ready to Quit

Hello to all,
I been on numerous websites like this but this is the first time that I have posted.  I have been hooked on Lortabs for at least the past 3 years.  I started out taking 1/2 of a 7.5 two or three times a day.  Now, I take 3 10's three or four times a day - anywhere from 9-12 a day.  I'm just tired of it.  I spend just about all my money on them.  I do not have a perscription - I buy them illegally.  I really hate myself for what I have become.  There is absolutely no way I can go to a doctor or any type of facility for help.  I've got to do this on my own.  I live in a small town where everybody knows everybody and I have a job that makes me pretty well known to everyone.  My husband knows of my bad habit.  He, too, has taken the pills but not on a regular basis and nothing like I do.  I am a mother to two beautiful and smart daughters.  I hate to think what would happen if they knew what a mess their mother is.  I've got to stop this before it totally wipes us out financially.  I've got to do it for myself and my family.  Can anyone give me some advice or home remedies?  Thank You!

I wrote yesterday and haven't heard anything back.  Today was my first day without and I only feel like crying...crawling out of my skin...resting doesn't help me but neither does moving although I had to put on a good face for the first day of my new job.  I feel so tired and hate not having any energy. Is there anything that will help me through the next fout day?

I just wanted to say that me and you are very much alike, in a small, kids, the only difference is that my husband is addicted too and he is not wanting to quit. I have went 5 days without them so i know i can it, but I was on my summer break and didn't have to work and was not ready to quit at the time, I just couldn't find anything. I have only 6 1/2=7.5 mg left of tabs and I am going to try and quit c/t. with or without my husband. I see that I can't keep doing this and this site really does help mentally and gives you support. Just knowing that their are other people that feel the same way as you really helps, but I have to keep my kids in my mind to do this right for them.

How is everything going for you? I've been following your posts, and it was one of the ones that enabled me to sign up for the forums and actually come clean (literally) about my story to tell everyone here. Let me tell you something... If you listen to one thing, listen to what I'm about to say to you, please:

I've been signed up for a little over an hour, and several of these people I can already consider my family members. I am determined to get out of this hole I dug only for myself in continiously accepting scripts from my doctor when he kept telling me that I needed them even if I thought that I didn't. There are different walks of life here, and for that I'm grateful.. It's a beautiful thing to see everyone come together to help one another out like they are doing here.

God bless, and the best of luck to you!!  PLEASE keep posting.

It is 'friends' like that who got you into this mess. Do yourself a favor and block their calls. A clean break helps you stay clean.

Well, I just took my last two.  I am already dreading this but I am going to give it my best shot to quit cold turkey.  I have read the recipe and also read up on the amino acids.  I will try to get those items - it sure can't hurt.  Last year, I went 4 or 5 days without and then I got a phone call from one of my "friends" and all that went out the window.  I hate myself for that!  I had a few valium, some anti-diarrehia medicine, and some good friends who kept me busy to get me through those 4 or 5 days.  I am going to try that again.  Please pray for me - I need all the help I can get!

I took methadone I would not recommend taking someone elses though. they really helped me alot but I never took more than 1 or once in a while 2 vics at a time and at the end I was only taking 3 10/35 norcos a day so I didnt need a very high dose of the meth. Mayb u can find a dr somewhere to help u its definatly worth looking into. If you have a min u can look at my journal and it will tell u what worked for me.

I agree with those above who advised you to STAY AWAY FROM THE METHODONE. I was addicted to the vicodin and did the methodone to help with the pill addiction and that was one of the biggest mistakes of my life.It ended me up in a much worse situation.Trying to free yourself from methodone is about 5 times worse then detoxing from the pills.Your best bet is,if you have the willpower, to taper.Tapering is hard for most so most of us have to go the cold turkey route. No matter which way you choose you have come to the right place for help and support.Congratulations on choosing to take your life back and please leave that methodone alone.Peace.

We all here know how hard it is to get off of these pills. What ever you do, do not give up on yourself. I have tried many times to taper off. I am one who can not do it that way. There are many here that can and did.. I am sure you will do fine.

As for the methadone, yes it can help, and yes it is very addicting. because it stays in your body so long. So if you use any of that, Please be careful. From the sounds of your intake.. You could take 5mgs 2 times a day, that would really help with the w/d's. I would only take that dose for 2 or 3 days then cut it back over a few days..

Good Luck with what ever plan you put together. And if you need any help you can PM me, or just keep posting. Everyone here would be happy to help!

My advice to you is to follow the Thomas Recipe to a T. (Right side of screen) - It worked wonderfully, the first couple days were ROUGH but I got through it, as I'm sure you will as well.

I wouldn't recomend the Methodone...It's going to essentially give you the same "High" feeling you have now...and chances are you're going to fall into something you don't want to.  I took Methodone a few times when I was "quitting" - lets just say it didn't work.  I found myself taking methodine just as often as I would take the vicodin.

You want to go with a natural recipe, such as Thomas.  If you're purchasing your pills illegally, most of the time, the people that have access to them will also have access to the Benzo drugs that the thomas recipe will require for the first few days.

The Thomas Recipe truely helped me get off pretty painlessly.  Like I said, the first few days were extremely rough, I would suggest doing it when you can have a few days off of work, because your body is just not going to want to do ANYTHING.  Let your husband know, I let my lady know and she helped me through it so much...she understood even though she has never taken a drug in her life...

She let me sit on the couch and watch tv all day because thats all my body would want to do...

It's now been about 9 or 10 days...and as much as I'd like to say I've won the battle, I know it's still an uphill climb, but I'm a much happier person than I was before.  I don't wake up in the morning thinking about how many pills I'm going to take.  The first thing I do now [only 10 days later] is think about how far I'm gonna take a jog for before I jump in the shower to get ready for my day.

I went from waking up daily at 10-11am in the morning to waking up at 7:30 every morning, without an alarm clock...

I can tell my body feels GREAT already...and this is it's way of telling me "THANK YOU FOR STOPPING TO PUT THAT **** IN ME!"

So my advice...do the Thomas Recipe...have faith...and I promise you...within a week, you will feel like a tottally new person. :)

First of all welcome to the forum!! You will find sooooo much support here and lots of knowledge! There's something called the Thomas Recipe which you can find on the lower right hand side of this page. That recipe has alot of great information which will help you with your detox! Do you plan on going CT? I did and I personally think that's the best way because once it's done it's over!! There are alot of success stories on here and I think alot of that has to do with the immense support that everyone receives here.
You have 2 major things in your favor. First you have the desire to quit and second your husband is aware of your problem so he can be there to support you which is so important!

You will have the "flu" for 5-7 days and that actually works out as a great as an excuse for work or any other people that you don't want to know the truth. The most important thing is that you have faith that you can and will suceed!! Good luck and keep posting!! I look forward to seeing you more often.

I would strongly suggest you DO NOT take the methadone to help you quit opiates.  I too have an addiction to norco (lortab 10mg).  My addiction is so bad I take 9-10 pills every 3 hours all day, so unless you do something, your addiction will only get worse.  I am not strong enough to taper-if I have pills, I take em all.  So, for me, the best way is CT.  It is difficult, but I'd rather have 5-7 days of 'the flu' than to draw it out over weeks.  If you taper, you will need someone to distribute your meds, and since your husband sometimes takes them I don't think he would be a good candidate.  Just prepare to be anxious, emotional, cold sweats, nauseated, the runs, no appetite and achey.  But listen, if you can just hang in there in 5-7 days the worst is over and you can begin to take back your life!!!   Congrats on taking the first step, which is admitting you have a problem, and reaching out for help from those of us who have been in your shoes.

Well, a first good step would be to take only 1 pill at a time, okay? Try that before you do anything else. We'll be here when you decide how you want to do this. Read as much as you can about the amino acids and tapering. You can't have too much information.

I take 3 at a time mostly.  Sometimes just 2 at a time.  Its pitiful how I have allowed this to take over my life.  Yes, I do work.  I don't know how I want to do this.  One of my "pill buddies" has some Methadone (I've taken it before and it helped).  I'm scared of it  because I know how powerful it is and I certainly don't want to trade one demon for another.  I thought about getting a couple of those and using them when I start feeling all jitterly and anxious.  I will read the Thomas Recipe and maybe try it.  I'm a difficult patient and have a lot going on in my life.  I need all the support I can get.  I appreciate all of your comments and help!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. You've definitely come to the right place. You have a few options depending on how you want to do this.  You can taper your dose and that will help lessen the withdrawals. Its difficult though. If you have someone hold your pills its easier.

You can also just stop altogether. Right now. There are amino acids posted on the health pages that you can take no matter what route you take. You should actually start them now.

It will be like having the flu for about 5-7 days. Its so worth it to have your life and your money back.

Decide what you want to do. You will have support here to help you through this.

Good luck,

Melissa
