I can't believe how well you're doing!  My husband has been on methadone for many years and is trying to do a slow taper.  You have a lot of courage to just stop cold turkey.
8 days is amazing!  You're almost there.  You'll have your life back.
I've read that hot baths can help a lot.  Calcium and magnesium supplements have been suggested to help with the withdrawal from methadone - especially in powder form or liquid so that it's easily absorbable, but anything is better than nothing.  One guy swore by zinc and magnesium supplements.  He said that he and his friends were able to withdraw from methadone without too much suffering and the good thing is that it's cheap - only a few dollars.  He said you could take up to 10 per day.  I doubt it works as well as he said, but it's worth a few dollars if it helps at all!
Hang in there.  You give us hope it can be done.

When I was detoxing off methadone I kept a journal of how I felt every day, & decided to check to see where I was at day 8, & heres what I wrote-  methadone *****, Im sweating, & have the chills, also no sleep & severe high anxiety! When will this end? & I hope I get a break soon. Then I looked into day 14- & I wrote, feeling much better, the anxiety is calming down & I have a bit more energy, still sneezing. From day 14 it kept getting better & better. It may seem as if theirs no end to your misery, but trust me it will all improve, give yourself more time, youll see!!  I havent wrote in my methadone journal in 3 months, I guess its because I have recovered? & You will to. Thanks much for the encouragement.  It is the hardest thing I have ever done.  Then, I think to myself I have such a long way to go yet BUT, short time cmpared to being....ohhhh dead.  I am going to just keep charging on.....lok at it like I'm in a war with methadone for my body n mind.  I think what really digs at me is that when I am really feeling rotten, how easy it is to say "keep dosing down".  But, they say all good things come as a result of a struggle.  I just wish I had a day number to look forward to as being "Hey...things willl improve from..."  Which I hear is day 21 but, everyone is different.

I wanted to ask.....did everyone just feel so desperate sitting up night after night like I am now...where 24 hrs is 24 houuurrrsss.  I try to keep my mind occupied.  Luckily, I am out of work n not going back  to work till done wiith this healing..

Does anyone remember what going into week number 2 was like?  I was dosing down before I stopped and jumped off at around 40 mgs a day.  Do I add those to the withdrawl days or it's when you stopped totally?  Sorry if I am repeating myself.....Ugh...sorry         8-'(

I know exactly what you mean. But please try to hang tough. There will be good days and bad days and many kinda unsure days. I'm 31 days and still have bad days occasionally. Yesterday was one of them, day 30 for me, a bad day. You've come so far now, don't throw those 8 days away. It really does get better. I was feeling quite a bit better after 2 weeks or so, third week, I felt pretty good, then the fourth week up and down. Strange how it takes so long to get over the effects of methadone in our bodies. These are the effects from NOT taking it...I shudder to think what it's done to my body while I was ON it.

sorry your not feeling well, it can get so frustrating cause in the beginning so much is going on mentally and physically that one minute you can feel good and the next horrible and overrun with emotions or feel sick. this is part of the process and unfortunately methadone seems to take a long time to come off of. 2 months off methadone seems to be a big turning point, im only going by what i hear as ive never taken methadone. i hope your feeling better again soon and don't give in. you are fighting right now and although it's tough for awhile i promise it will get better. keep posting, you are doing great:) what day are you on, close to a month i think right???
