i truly believe this also...i was in MORE pain the whole time i was on methadone, it did worsen for a few weeks when i stopped methadone and transitioned to sub, but it is 10 times better now than when i was on methadone...
i cant explain it, but i sure do believe it. i didnt want to believe it at first, but when i finally made the decision to get off it, and was 4 weeks off it, i was amazed!
Enemy is right!! I too have suffered chronic pain for years including bad discs in my back and neck, scoliosis, arthritis of the entire spiine, hips & knees, fibromyalgia, and a few other things that hurt. I never dreamed I would be able to get off pain meds, especially cuz of my back, that is the worst. I went through stages where Id have severe back attacks- got stuck bent over for a week or more at a time in the most excrutiating pain ever! Couldnt walk or anything!
When i first started getting off these pills, my pain came back so bad I wanted to scream adn rip my hair out. I also had strange symptoms with my back pain like shooting down my legs (which i didnt have before). It is your addiction trying to get you to start taking the drugs again. It will do all kinds of crazy things to try and get you take more pills again.
I relapsed several times before I made it this far (Im over 80 days clean now). Anyhow, it took quite awhile but my pain is not as bad as it used to be. I can now take just Motrin 800 and occasionally Flexeril (muscle relaxer) when my back gets kinda bad again. And it works for the most part. Makes it tolerable for sure. I do get stiff and hurt alot of days with bad weather but nothing like the pain i used to have. You just have to get some clean time under your belt, and then you will be amazed how much over the counter or non narcotic meds will help the pain.
btw have you had the cortisone spinal shots yet to see if that helps your back pain?
About the pain........listen to what I'm going to say and I know a lot of people here will back me on this. Not all, but a lot.
I had a back surgery and need another and I have arthritis & fibromalgia.
A RN once told me that the longer I took my pain meds, the more my body would seem to hurt.
The first couple of days were aweful enough w/everything else, but the pain had me in tears. Then it got a little better. Then o day 7 & 8, for some reason the bad pain came back. It went away again and came back day 16 & 17.
JGood, I now look back and see 6 years of thousands of pills poisoning my body because the dope tricks your brain. Pain goes away with a little time.
There are forms of relief for the pain druing that time.
