need a bit-o-help

Hello, I am a 28 year old man, new to the site and am in need of a bit-o-help myself. I am coming off of a 2+ year slow reduction of meds, following 7+ years of taking 300+mg of o/c, roxi, or a bundle of 'd' every 2-3 hrs. I found a DR who was willing to save my life and we managed to get me down to 2.5mg of methadone approx evry 6hrs. I was doing so well I was even forgetting to take me meds, so I decided it was time. Now I'm on day 4+ of withdrawl and it seems to get better then worse. Any sugguestions for easing the pain. I am avoiding benzo's at all cost(I have heard enough stories). Is there anything I can do, or any estimates of time before I fell any better?

I can tell you what is working for me.  I was taking 80-120 mg per day along with a few beers.  It was legit as I have had 9 surgeries over the last 9 months.  The doctors just kept giving me more and more of the s**t along with soma.  I found myself counting down to my next appointment or refill.  Oh yeah, my doctor also had me on 10mg. of benzo per day.  On Wednesday night with full bottles of everything I just decided, enough is enough.  I flushed all of it the norco, soma and benzo.  Thursday afternoon started to get really rough, Friday was miserable, but today, almost 72 hours in I feel pretty damn good!!  I have the sh*ts and take 2 Imodium every few hours, I take OTC allergy pills to sleep, started multivitamins yesterday along with B-6 and Motrin 800mg as needed no more than 2 per day.  One thing I think helped is I had not eaten since Wednesday morning and this morning I forced myself to eat a bowl of chicken soup.  I threw it up and ate another bowl about 5 hours ago and it has stayed down.  I am nibbling on cheese to and drinking a ton of Gatorade and cranberry juice and peeing those little demons out.  With all of the liquids, food, vitamins and allergy pills and occasional half of a Mortin I am feeling pretty good.  Hang in there brother, drink juice and force yourself to eat then go get some over the counter sleep aids! -72hoursin

Before I could get to you, Laurel came on in the other thread and gave you some great suggestions. I have the link below. Copy and paste it and read what she wrote. Good stuff.

Anyway, you are going to be uncomfortable for a bit but I gotta tell you, it is so worth it not to be salve to the pills or the whatever's. Please be patient and give yourself a break. Hang in there and keep talking. It does help.

Ok....here's what you need, and it WILL help.

Mag/Cal supplement
Hylands Restful Legs or Leg Cramps with quinine
Apple juice
Epsom salts for baths...several times a day
Advil 800 mg 3 xs a day

Are you eating soup and toast?  Or at least getting something in your stomach?  Sleeping any?  You can try some nyquil without decongestant for sleep.  It helped me, and I thought NOTHING would!!!

Thank you for responding. Well, to make it as short as possible... I decided following the many deaths of friends and family I no longer wanted to be my own slave. My doc and I did some research before starting on methadone pills, and decided that a lower dose several times a day would be better than one huge dose in th am at some clinic. So I got started. I was taking 80mg/4-6hrs at first along with a few 'whatevers'to help. Keep in mind I was up to 390mgs+/2-3hrs of pain killers prior. I don't know if that is a lot in comparison, but... So I worked myself down to 5mg/6-8hrs over 3 months(2mo ago), to 2.5mg sparingly these past 6 weeks. things were going so well, I was forgetting to even take the methadone! So I figured it was time to kick. I feel terrible, very achy and flu like. My eyes won't stop tearing up and I'm flopping around in bed like a fish for days. However, I know this is nothing compared to what I used to go through, so I'm trying to hang in there. I just wish there was something to help. Something legal and non-addicting. Thanks again

Hey!

Glad you managed to taper down on the Methadone. How long were you on it?

Hun, not to scare you, but you have been on something, a lot of things, for a long time. You are more than likely going to have withdrawal and it may be uncomfortable.Tthe reason why you may not feel it right now is the long half-life of the Methadone. That being said, don't dwell on it. He-ll, you may be one of the lucky ones!!

Tell us what you are feeling now?

Hi!  I'm glad you posted your own question!  You will get a lot of support.  It will depend on how long you were on the methadone.  That wd is different than short acting opiates like oxy.  You will have days of feeling better than others.  That is normal.  Look at the thomas recipe on the health pages.  And the amino acid protocol.  Exercise and baths help a lot for energy and aches and pains.

Good luck!!!
