You got the most amazing advice in the above post so I don't think I can add anything to it! I just want to second what she said and welcome you to a clean life free from the bondage of pills.
Welcome to the forum friend.
I am a recovering addict ...138 days clean from codeine. I quit cold turkey as i know i'm not strong enough to taper...if i had access to them i would take them....simple as that.
My habit was getting out of control....150mg daily sometimes more sometimes less over 10 plus years. I am very nearly 50 years old...so not an easy habit to break!
The best advice i can give you is get prepared properly for the w/ds immodium for stomach issues, calcium, magnesium and a good multi vit to help with RLS and energy, bananas and kiwi fruit both contain potassium which can help with RLS also, epsom salts to use in as many hot baths as you can take will help with aches and pains, and as much water as you can drink to help flush the toxins through your body quicker. Try searching on here for the Thomas Recipe...lots of advice on vit/min supplements.
If you use caffeine try to cut it out altogether (can make anxiety and sleeplessness worse) or at least no caffeine after midday. Buy some valerian to help with sleep ...or some other herbal remedy (ask at your local health food store).
Once you're satisfied that you are as prepared as you can be then take the leap of faith....we'll all be here to catch you....You can do this.
It isn't an easy ride, i won't lie....but it is do-able and so very worth it. Tell yourself you're in for the worst bout of flu you've ever had and ride it out...by day 4 you'll be well on your way and start to see little improvements on a daily basis....It's only 100 hours...Do what you have to do to get through it, music, posting on here, favourite book/film...be kind to yourself but very tough!
There'll be lots more people on later to offer you excellent advice on coping with various symptoms if/when they arise....and of course, even if some have no experience of codeine you'll find the support on offer around here an absolute lifeline!
Well done for taking the first step....You deserve better....you can have better...it's all in your own hands....Ready?....then let's get started!
Wishing you strength, courage and clarity on your road to recovery.
