Advice on getting of Vicodin

I need someplace I can come each day as I get myself off vics. Rehab is out as I am unemployed and have no insurance. So I was hoping you all would be there for me. I have been on and off vics for about 3 years. Started with back trouble and I was hooked. I did get off them for a brief period about 3 months ago and felt so much better, but then in July I had surgery and here we go again. I am now down to my last 2 pills and I want off these for GOOD. I was taking at this last bout 4 to 6    5/500 or the new narco which has less tylenol in it about the same amount of narcs. I will be going cold turkey with the help of my loving husband. My biggest problem when I try to stop in INTENSE ANXIETY. Leaves me almost suicidal. How long will this last???? Can I write to you as I progress for support??? Thanks so much for your time. vmpmom

ps What is this mix from I think it's Tom I have been hearing about and can I get everything without a doctor?

HANG IN THERE SWEET PEA!!  I can tell you it's NOT gonna be easy BUT it IS DO ABLE!  I am now 3 weeks clean off of a cold turkey withdrawl from Norco 10/325 8-10 a day x's 3 years (for 2 back surgeries) and (as I've said before) EVERYDAY THAT YOU DO NOT USE IS A BETTER DAY THAN WHEN YOU DO!!

Be sure and check out the Thomas Receipe... (I did a modified version without the use of the Valium or Immodium) and I still take the Vitamin B Complex, Vitamin C and 500mg of L-Tyrosine a day...(the l-tyrosine seems to help re-establish those neuro-transmitters that we've FRIED while using).

Also, a little exercise EVERY DAY is good... (walking, cycling, swimming, WHATEVER you can muster up to do) is good for your natural endorphins... it's still hard for me to get MOTOR-VADED but once you get out and get MOVING it helps...

Plus, try to drink ALOT OF WATER... flush that sick system....

Hang in there and keep on posting... This forum has been a LIFE SAVER for me!

God Bless you and Prayers to you too!!

Hi & Welcome,

I am glad you found your way here. there are lots of great folks here with experience, strength and hope that will help you through every phase of the physical and mental withdrawal.

I see that Gizzy told you how to get a copy of The Thomas Recipe. That is good. Remember that it will only ease the withdrawal, not take it away so you be a bit uncomfortable for 5 to 7 days. But it is doable and you won't be disappointed if you stick to it and get to the other side.

I always suggest rehab for long-term users (or anyone for that matter) and there are many rehabs that will take what they call "indigent" cases which are those who don't have insurance. You can do a google search and find some centers in your area and go from there.

Once you get a few days under your belt we can talk about the mental part of this disease and others can share with you how to STAY clean.

Again, welcome aboard and ask anything you like to help get you through this.

you have most definitely come to the right place and Im very glad you found us. This forum has the best people who understand what you are going through, and will offer you such great support and advice!  I have been here over 2 years myself and also been hooked on vicodin for about the same amt of time as you (and also due to a bad back initially!) My intake was much higher than yours though. I was gobbling up the 7.5/750's at a frightful pace each day. Im now around a month clean again (have suffered multiple relapses in this journey from hell).
Keep reading here as much as you can, and post often. YOu can get through this!!

Welcome to the forum. I guess `your going cold turkey and many here are going through the same thing as you right now. I am sorry you have to go through this, but for most, the physical wd`s last about 4-5 days and usually starts to get better from there. Of course you can write about your progress, there is a lot of great advice and support on this forum. Just like you said, you felt better when you were off them before. It`s tough, but you can do this.

Are you talking about the thomas recipe to help with wd`s. If you look in the top right of this page, you will see health pages. That is where you will find the thomas recipe, it has helped many here. Good luck and keep posting:)
