Day 5 - Off Percs

From taking between 4 - 10 percs a day, its now cold turkey day 5. My energy level is way better than yesterday, I am still having dizzy spells when standing up, but seems to lessening. My sleep patterns are still out of wack ( 5 hours off and on). But I go see my doctor tomorrow so I shall see what she says about that.  I find myself thinking that because my withdrawals were not that bad (no aches or pains, no diareah, had a good appetite) that taking a pill or two wont do any harm....I am fighting that and made a call to attend NA meeting.  One day a time.

Also know that withdrawing a second or third time gets worse. Happened to me. The first time I got clean, the WD wasn't too bad, the second time... whoa!Keep up the great work, and flush the rest of the pills! Took me two weeks to get rid of the " just in case" pills... way too tempting!

I just re-read some of my posts from when i detoxed after 19 months on percs last July 2011 and wanted to share some thoughts.

With a good mindset and the Thomas Recipe, I actually didn't find the first seven days THAT awful (physically).  However, the second week I found to be much tougher mentally and you must stay strong.  I felt downright awful in the early part of the 2nd  week.  I thought there was no end in sight, but please trust me when I tell you it gets better.  My sleep started improving around day 12. My energy improved dramatically from days 12 to 15 and sleep improved around the third week.

Stick with the plan... trust me you will feel better before you know it.  In some ways I found week 2 harder than week 1 because of the frustration of not feeling "normal."  You have overcome the physical part, now you have to overcome the mental.  But you have to trust that it will get better.

Aftercare is important because even after going through this hell last year, I was clean for about 5 months, then spent nearly all of 2012 on back opiates and eventually suboxone, which i'm now 22 days clean from but had much miilder withdrawals than opiates (for me anyway)..  Keep fighting the good fight and keep posting.

Congrats on day 5.  That is a big accomplishment.
Now is when the mental kicks in and you made a great decision to make that call.
Every withdrawal gets worse and you got off easy this time.
You don't want to have to go through a bad withdrawal.  Trust me.
I wouldn't wish it on anyone and I am facing that right now.
Keep fighting.  You have a good attitude and you can do it.
