For those actively using seeking a reason to quit!

I feel like opiates are a wicked hook. They pull you in and teach you to trust them. When you realize you can't trust them it's too late. The road always ends at the same place........dependency, then addiction and finally withdrawls. It's a long road if your lucky enough to find the end of it.

To those who are visiting the forum who are looking for a reason to quit, just read the other posts on this forum. My above statement is a testimony to all the brave people who have beat their ugly addiction and what they have gone through. It is what I am struggling with everyday of my life, to never return to the craziness that is inevitable. NOBODY on this forum thought they would be where they are today. Addiction grabs you and holds on for dear life. It becomes part of you, ever fiber of your being. Pill counting, scheduling activities around how much drugs you have left, isolation and disappointing yourself and family to only name a few examples. Everyone thought it could not happen to them. It did. Rock bottom.... well depends what ur rock bottom is. Don't wait until you find out.

Wow!  Prodigal's post really hit home.  I agree with firefish about Prodigal's comment with the the pill counting and activity planning.  That was something that I did without ever realizing these were the early warning signs.  Looking back, now that I have started my journey to be free, I can really see it.

You go Ella!!!  Today is the first 8 days of the rest of your life.  You can do it!!

Couldn't have said it better my self!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The past 5 years just flashed before me and I have tried never to be a hateful person, but I think I hate the waisted time and the emotional suffering these things can cause.  I don't know that anything stronger than the Anacin back & body will be my choice for pain relief from now on.  It's just no kind of life being so dependent on these things and planning our life around our need!
  Yeah, God help us all!
Been opiate free for 8 days, no turning back now!

Wow. Your post was the first time I ever saw pill-counting and activity-planning in writing and it really hit home.  I was doing that.  Although I knew I was doing it, it never occurred to me that was abnormal behavior caused by the drugs.

I am off vicodin 3 months now, and tramadol 20 days.  I started the trams under a doctor's care as they control the pain "but don't prouduce the high that vicodin does."  Well, that's true, but they are twice as addicting and harder to shake (in my humble opinion).

Thanks for your words.  Good stuff.  And it's great to be free.

Good post.  I watched "The Cleaner" last year and it was a true story based on an ex heroin addict.  He always said when you think you have hit your rock bottom there is always a trap door.
