Day one sober (suboxone)

Hello and here is my story, about four years ago I started taking one 10/325 percecet . As you can imagine it became habit forming and over the last year or so it has grown to taking 12 – 14 pills a day. I loved the energy it gave me, the feeling and everything that goes along with it. I consider myself very fortunate with four great kids, an awesome and loving wife (high school sweetheart) of  over 20 yrs and an awesome job that I have been in for over twenty years. The lost of control I think really contributed to my mood swings and the anxiety of running low on pills and not having enough till the next script brought on some bad behavior. Any way, I tried to stop cold turkey and it was too hard, too painful, just flat out sucked. I decided to take time off of work starting today, lock myself up and just suck it up. At the last minute I found a doctor who will treat me with the suboxone. It has been twenty hours since my last perc and this morning I started with the suboxone.  I am not looking for the buzz anymore only because the perc’s do not have the same effect, I just want to be able to function, I have always been very sharp at what I do on the job and I want it back in the worse way, I do not want to interrupt my workday to go and score pills. Is there anyone else who is on suboxone who can tell me what I can expect? Will I still get the cravings? I do not want to spit in the wind, but I actually feel okay. The thing that helps is that I do not want the buzz anymore but the craving was always from not feeling normal and I have accepted that I can not live my life on pills. I am looking to this group as support so that on the bad days I have some where to go, this is my first day sober and I feel pretty good and I think not wanting  to get the buzz and back on to my A game on the job is helping. Thanks!

Well today is the end of day one and not to spit in the wind I fell okay, I was actually able to go out and be social on my first day. I am actually in a good mode because I made it through a day with not one OC after 4 yrs, I also scheduled a 5 day vacation from work because I did not know how I was going to feel, but I think I am going to work in the morning. I am proud of myself because my meds are actually being regulated by my significant other and the doctor told her to give me three (8Mg) pills a day but I only had to take two and I really have no craving to take that third one so we will end the day at two pills. I do not think I have any right to say this because I am only on it for one day, but it is my opinion that if you no longer want to get high than sub is the way to go and sub will not get rid of the wanting to get high.

It's good to hear that it is helping you, just be careful with the doses.  It is easy to stay on the medication because of how normal you feel.  8mgs twice a day is still a lot, and I think you will find that you feel exactly the same on 4mgs.  Just make sure you stick with the taper plan and don't get too comfortable.  Good luck!  Keep us posted.

Also, no buzz, I feel like I am a bit hung over, I do alot of software programing and on the perc's I had limited focus on my work. Today I feel like my self, I can see the end product on the project I am working on, where as two days ago I felt like I was in a box and colud not see the long term goal.

Lynn,

That is my exact plan, I took an 8mg tab at 8AM, I was instructed to take 3 doeses a day. In reading post I see that Sub has the same effect with WD when coming off it. So I am going to try and go with the only two and hope to be done in a month. The good part is that I built up a tolerance with the percs so I was not getting the buzz anymore I really had to take them so I did not get sick. I think if you realy do not desire the high anymore than Sub is the way to go because that is the effect that I have. I am able to function, no crave and 20 hours since my last perc.

I can tell you that you will probably feel exactly the same as you did on pills.  You will probably feel great.  But if you do not desire to get high, you cannot be on too high of a dose.  You should start at 2mgs and see if that makes you feel "normal" and not high.  And use it as a tool to get through withdrawal.  You should only take it for a week or two, tapering down the whole time until the original drugs are out of your system.  I have been on Suboxone for 2 years, and it is now a b*tch to get off of.  I wish I had used it short term, but I felt so comfortable on it that I did not want to give it up.

try to talk to your doc about a short term use of sub just to get through the w/ds or you will be w/ding from the sub later and thats bad

You said you started the suboxone this AM.   Can I ask how much you took and what your long term plan is (how long you plan to be on the sub)?    I've learned from this site that sub is really powerful and horrible to come off of if you take it too long.  I'm debating whether or not to go on it short term myself, so I'd really be interested to know what you feel like and what your plan is.  Good luck.
