Detoxing off of oxycodone.

Ive been on them for about 5 years. 3 to 4 15mg's a day. This past summer, depression started setting in and I knew it was the pills. Started getting panick attacks . Dr. put me on a thyroid med at the same time. Im now wondering if the thyroid med exasberatted the painc attacks. They started the same month. I am down to 1/2 a pill a day of the 15mg's. Weaned myself very quickly in 8 days. Panic attacks fill my days, and then I relax alot more after 7:00PM, for some reason, dont sleep much, and in the mornings, the panic attacks begin again. Thanksgiving I will be alone, I dont want my family to see me this way. Does anyone know if the thyroid meds (Levothyroxine) may have a hand in the attacks? and when will they stop if not?

Hi Sandra,

I had panic attacs last year.. for no reason. And they started while I was on a vacation.. I had not reason to worry.. and bam.. here they were.. heart pounding.. I thought I was dying and went to the ER several times. Luckily they stopped.. just as they came, they left.. after only few weeks.. the doctor here told me how it works and why my heart was poundiing like that.. For some odd reason, the panic attacs never came back..
In regard to your good day/bad day concenr.. I am sure that it's normal to have a good day and than bad days again when going through withdrawals. When I was 17 I was a heroin addict and when my family saved me (I was just a kid and dealers with heroin just exploded in my small home town.. selling that stuff to teenagers for pennies), I remember feeling withdrawals even months after being clean.. I remember the doctor called it a "flashback".. you will see, it's just a day or two and than you will feel good again.. it will slowly leave you... the bad feelings and symptoms.. When you get a bad day, just tell your self that it's just a occasional-quick thing that will fade quickly..

Did this happen to any of you? Feeling good one day, only to regress again? This has me worried.

Thanks for all your responses. I actually took myself off the thyroid meds a week ago Wednesday, even tho, the dr. said stay on them. He doesnt know I did that cause, I dont trust dr's anymore. I stopped xanax, 2 weeks ago, and Ambien 4 days ago, also dont take OTC sleeping aids , just that one night. Just been tuffing it out now. Day 4 was wonderful , day 5 sucked, today is day 6, and its not much better. I dont understand! Was feeling so good day 4. I cant stop the dang crying, only cause I was feeling better and got faked out the next day. Im getting this awful feelin this is never going to go away!!! on day 4 I was hardly depressed and laughed quite a bit cause I was feeling so good.

Congratulations on getting off the oxy. I was on the same 15mg 3x a day..tapered within 7 days..4 yr. use...What a Blessing!!
About 1 year ago I was dx w/hypothyroidism and put on synthroid...I had major heart palpatations just climbing the stairs..Dr. told me to take more magnesium..?
One morning feelin' fine...10 min. later I had like a meltdown...major panic..terror..lasted a few minutes..I was just sitting on my deck ..beuatiful  morning...it scared the heck out of me. I called Dr. right away..again telling me to take more mag. I just knew that the dose was too high..and asked for lab slip..My T3's were off the charts...High...even before I got the results..I lowered the dose. So that's my story.
I fI can give you any advice at this point it would be to be extremely cautious w/ the xanax..don't take longer than a week..they are incredibly addicting and can be very difficult (talk about anxiety??!) to w/d from..IMO..much harder than the oxy..
Wish you all good.

~Hi Sandra! Im glad to see you are hanging in there! Im so sorry you feel like crap today! I get it! It does get more tolerable as the days pass,,,I promise. The throid medication could be a factor in the anxiety and pounding heart,,,you really really need to tell/call your doctor about this. That concerns me. Stay hydrated and warm baths as tolerated. im just worried about that thryoid medication,,,LOL. I dont mean to be pushy. Keep us posted and keep posting,,Ill keep an eye out for you! ~Bkitty

Yes u are correct. That med is so awful. I lost ssssooooo much weight in no time, look sickly now. Heart racing, I stopped it, even tho Dr. told me not to. Yesterday was starting to feel better except difficulty breathing while lying down. Today, feel like garbage again.

I totaly stopped 5 days ago. The 4rth day was better than all of them. Today, I feel like garbage again. Everytime I take a sleeping aid, wether its xanax or ambien, I wake up with heart pounding and anxiety, but the few nights I didnt take it, I woke up feeling much better. Last night couldnt sleep at all, took an OTC sleeping aid and BAM, withdrawals again! Read all sleeping aids, block the whole brain process of dopamine and the seretonin. Also pain in chest while lying down and breath right. Scared the hell outta me. Dam!! Hate this!

If you are really down to just 1/2 pill a day, I'd get my doc to give me ONLY 10 or so Xanax and take 1/4 of a 2mg bar two times a day while I cold turkey off the Oxy alltogether. The xanax will calm you while you're detoxing. But serious...ONLY 1/4 pill couple times a day. Look up the Thomas resipe and get er done.

I know that they Levothyroxine can alter mood....google this med and see what you can find. Or, better yet, ask your pharmacist.
