Does anyone have Experiance with rls from methadone wds?

I have been off methadone since December 26, so just about 2 weeks. All the painful symptoms are gone but I have a really rough time sleeping because of restless arms and legs! It's driving me nuts! Is this normal? I pray someone can help me! Thank you:)

Hi my name is vickie and I too am in 4 months of recovery. I was on methedone for over 12 yrs. I started to snort it with adderral and had clonazepam at night. I went down to 30mg and went cold trukey. It was the hardest thing i have down but the rewards are god send. I went through satges of withdrws. I do highly believe in the vit/min I used mag oil, baths, mag caps,D's and cal powder after a month of being clean. It took 2 months for me to sleep OK.and calm down. Like I said in another post , they say it comes in waves for a year or so. I read we will have post withdraws sym that come and go mild. Also it takes a yr or so for the brain transmitters and such to come around I take alot of natural vit/min and eat right I do feel for sure it helps. I am 56 and have been doing drugs/booze alomost all my life so for that I am blessed I am coming around quickly. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK TRUST ME IT DOES GET BETTER DAY BY DAY. I also like to pass on the videos I watched regardign the disese of addiction. (Pleasures unwoolven, some from a bettyford place and others on the internet) This saved my but and so does giving to my god and going to aa/na. Remember its your recovery and you play it your way. Good Luck to us all and KEEP ON TRUCKIN

Hi there, I am not off my methadone yet but my doctor has already prescribed me Neurontin for rls. I have heard from others that came off methadone that it worked wonders for them. I don't know if you are in to taking another med but it might be worth talking to your doctor about it, you wouldn't need to be on it that long. I am on 6mgs right now but I am going to make sure I have some Neurontin on hand for when my time comes. Just a thought............

try Haylan's restless leg vitamins. You can get in a health food store, they also have a cream by the same company. I used aspercreme also when I ran out of the other stuff. Sometimes it calms the legs down and sometimes it doesnt. I had that for 4 weeks. Banana's and magnesium, calcium and vit D in a combo may help as well, but time is your best friend.

It's a terrible feeling...it's one of my top worst symptoms. You just feel like you need to stretch and squirm constantly. You are doing such a great job... Don't let a little funny feeling deter you... It will be gone shortly....

Thank you notordinary I will check that out. I am doing my best to get out for at least a half hour walk a day, and working up. I know it's not much but I'm really out of shape. Andie015, I know what you mean, I have it from one shoulder through my chest to my other shoulder!

Unfortunately it's so common. I also had the same sensation in my midsection. It's a really hard feeling to describe...just an uncomfortable uneasiness in the gut. It does go away...just ride it out and it will go away. I found that its not one of the withdrawal symptoms that lasts very long. Keep on the right track and you will feel so much better.... Good luck!!!

The clondine should be helping a lot.
How much exercise are you getting? walking seems to help also. As you probably all ready know this. :-)

Thank you! I do take hot baths before I attempt to sleep but when I realized it wasn't just when I was trying to sleep but all the time, I was a little concerned. If it takes about 3 weeks then I'm on my way! Ive been taking vitamins and clonodine for it but as I'm sure you know, I don't get very much restful sleep!

Oh yeah that's a methadone norm. I had to sleep on the floor to let my wife sleep. My arms coiled like snakes and my legs kicked like a donkey, for about 3 weeks. Nothing with methadone happens all at once, the muscle cramps and rls/ras will fade out. Cal./Mag./Zinc helps a lot. Really hot epsom salt baths help also. You've come a long way, nice work.
