Fighting cravings (hydrocodone)

I've been weaning off of hydrocodone, & was doing really well yesterday... but today I really want to use.  I've had 1/2 norco today, smallest amount I've had yet in a day.  But I don't just want to take another 1/2 or 1... I want to take 2 or 3.  =(  *****.  Yesterday i was feeling good about how well I was doing w/ the weaning.  Especially since I have plenty norcos I could take as much as I want.   Of course after doing that for a few days I would run out & then I'd be back to trying to scrape some up.  So, I'm gonna remember why I'm weaning off these damn things & NOT take any.

Okay I understand better now.  Believe me I understand impatience only too well (I think impatience is my middle name??). lol

Then I guess it's back to focusing on your thinking.  Think about how bad you will feel tomorrow if you use more than you planned on today.  That feeling will be awful and it will make you even more depressed and less confident.  And those feelings will lead to relapse (I know this only too well unfortunately).  And then the whole mess starts all over again.  And do you really want to start all over again?  Of course not.

Obviously I don't know you - but the fact that you're here speaks volumes about your committment.  So it only stands to reason that you are MUCH stronger than you think you are.  The sense of accomplishment from getting off the pills is so GREAT so take strength from that.  You CAN do this!!!!  Just hang on and it will get a little easier with each passing day.  Yes, some days will be better than others.  But recovery is non-linear.  Just focus on the promise you have now made to yourself to taper off.    You have only yourself to answer to now.

I hope my words are coming thru with the heartfelt sincerity I feel and that I don't sound harsh?

I'm afraid going ct will make me jump back in the deep end.  I've gotten off these things before w/ tapering... and the cravings I was having today (took another 1/2 & craving's subsided for now) are nothing compared to cravings after going ct.  The problem I seem to be having w/ tapering right now is I'm impatient, so I try to go too fast, & end up craving, & when the cravings come, I don't just crave the 5mg that will make the w/d & back ache go away.  Once I'm craving, I want it all - w/d relief, pain relief, and warm fuzzy all's-right-with-the-world feeling.

I know it's not for everyone, but for me tapering seems to work.

No there's not much point trusting someone else w/ the pills.  I can get 'em anywhere anytime.  I live in the pill capital of the world.  No easy way to cut off my supply line.

I think the cravings are unfair, a low blow. Im comming up on three weeks and want to use pretty bad. I give you so much credit for not-  taking as much as you want.I know I dont walk around all day craving. Just afew moments daily that I crave m big time! We just do all that hard work quiting and the wds. Then, you feel really good and consider putting posion back in our bodies. After weeks months and years of being clean. Not fair. I get so mad at myself for craving so much. I feel like Im thinking about it. Im trying not to think about it.                                 Good point.          Think about tomorrow and dont get lost in the here and now.    BOO4crAvings

I can only speak from personal experience, but if you're already feeling like you want to take 2 or 3 then continuing this taper on your own may be very difficult.  Is there someone you trust who can hold the pills for you to help you during your tapering process?  Or is it at all possible for you to just jump off and go c/t?  I don't know your history so I'm sorry if I'm suggesting things that aren't an option for you.

Just my thoughts.  And btw kudos to you for coming here FIRST before taking anything as it shows how committed you are to this whole thing so nice job.

well... I was thinking the opposite.  yesterday I had 2 pills, so maybe 1/2 is too much taper for 1 day.  I'm thinking about taking another 1/2.

If you are down to half a pill, this may be a good time to just jump off. The tapering process itself is surely causing the cravings. There isn't going to be any difference in withdrawal between half a pill and no pill.

If you decide to go this route, be sure to get rid of any pills you may still have around.

Good luck and stick around. It helps just to talk sometimes.
