Finally found help

Hi,
I have been struggling with pain killers since I had a surgery and currently have chronic pain. I went to many doctors telling them I was having issues with quitting and it seemed no one believed me. One doctor said I had the flu and offered me a re-fill on my script. I declined because I still had some, but was desperately seeking any type of assitance. I finally found an addiction specialist. I had to let myself go into withdrawals again so he could give me suboxone. It is making it a lot easier, but I don't want to get dependent on suboxone. I am taking the bare minimum- 1 strip/pill a day. It has been more than 48 hours since my last dose of pain killers. The doctor said I could take up to 16mg (2 strips) a day and I am only taking half of that to minimize withdrawal from suboxone. I let myself get to a point where I am uncomfortable before I take suboxone. I am thankful and amazed to feel like I am progressing, but was wondering if anyone else had experience with using suboxone. I am concerned because it is making quitting immensely easier, but I am curious if I should try to limit my use of suboxone.
Thanks for your help. I never imagined I'd be in this type of situation.

Take the sub for as short a period as you can stand. It can take a year to get over the sub withdrawal it sounds like you have the right idea. Keep up the good work

Hi Jasminita and welcome! First, congrats on you decision to quit pain pills! How are you going to deal with your chronic pain once you quit? Second, I do not have any experience personally with Suboxone, however, I have learned on this forum that Suboxone is addictive and the withdrawals are longer and worse than from pain killers! That being said, there are lots of folks who have successfully quit pain pills on a Suboxone program! However, it is a complete program, and should be used for a very limited time! You should thoroughly discuss this with your doctor! Hang tight and I'm sure others with more information and experience will be along to offer better advice!

Take care, and I wish you all the best! Keep posting for advice and support!

I have only been on suboxone for 2 days. I was up to 120mg of percocet a day, but had weened myself down to 30-50mg a day. It is hard because I have chronic pain, but once I realized I couldn't just stop because I would get sick, I knew that I didn't want to take painkillers anymore. I also don't want to trade one addiction for another, however.
Thanks again,
J
