Getting clean from opiate use, can anyone shed light on liver & kidney concerns?

Hi everyone, so I just had blood work done and it came back saying my liver enzymes were elevated (normal ALT range is 0-45, and my number is 74! … apparently it can be into the thousands, though) I rarely drink, but I’ve been taking 3-5 Norco every day for two and a half years but I’ve recently switched to equivalent in Oxy (no acetaminophen) for the last two months.

Unfortunately, I have to save up a bit of money before I can do further blood work so in the meantime I’m obviously very nervous as to what’s causing the high liver enzymes.   I’ve decided to fully get off of pain killers entirely, but I’m wondering - if the Norco is contributing to the elevated liver enzymes, is it treatable/will it go down as I stop taking the pills? (I realize it could be something else causing it, so I’m also improving my diet as well).  I’m only 29, so I just hope I’m not already passed the point of my liver being able to heal.

I sometimes feel like I can feel dull/vague abdominal pain in that general area… it could be liver, or kidneys? I’ve had a lot of urine retention and constipation over the years from the pain killers.  I’m hoping this will go away now that I’m stopping?

I don't have any real reason to be taking these pills, aside from fear of the anxiety that will come with getting off of them so I am determined to get clean!

I’m nervous to go through the withdrawals, so I feel like I need a benzo to help me with the anxiety (I’m already prescribed to them as I have had severe anxiety for most of my life) but also nervous as to how that will affect my liver etc too. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Hii Retrace. Welcome to the forum.. Your liver reading are not as high as some this is for sure but it is a indication something is going on. Getting of the drugs would be a good start. Constipation causes a lot of pain in the area you are speaking off. Fatty Liver can give reading like this. Some can have a high reading go back in 3 months and it is back down. I do not know your history if you have used needles in the past as Hep C also causes liver reading to be high but much higher then you are showing.. Your kidneys may feel some urine retention  this is uncomfortable make sure you are drinking a lot of water to flush your system. When I was using water was not on the top of my priority list. Make sure you take care of those bad boys as living without them sucks.. Eat healthy exercise get off the drugs do not abuse your anxiety meds if you can not live without them.. You liver is a remarkable organ it heals itself when given the opportunity! Take Good care of yourself ok. We are here for you when you decide to put down the Oxy.. lesa

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR READY TO QUIT..THATS GOOD...THE GREAT THING ABOUT THE LIVER IS IT CAN REGENERATE IT SELF The liver is a unique organ. It is the only organ in the body that is able to regenerate. With most organs, such as the heart, the damaged tissue is replaced with scar, like on the skin. The liver, however, is able to replace damaged tissue with new cells...THE SOONER YOU QUIT THE BETTER....I would stay away fron the benzos too...
