Addiction to Hydrocodon

I was in rehab about 5 years ago for acute opiate addiction for a week.  They put me on Suboxone so I experience no withdrawals.  My problem this time is about a year ago I totaled my new truck and the ER doctor gave me pain pills - for my legitimate pain - but then found I was right back where I started.  Back on the pills again!  I really need to get off these....I'm no happy anymore.....I used to play with my grandbaby all the time and now all I want to do is lay around and count those stupid pills! I've had enough.  My husband is aware and is willing to help me but I need something that will keep the withdrawals to such a minimum that my two girls and grandbaby won't notice it.  I've ben reading for hours....wanted to see what anyone had on this board.  I believe I take about 15 pills a day (including when I wake up withdrawing) and they are 10/500's.  Anyone got advice?  Thanks!

That is WAY too much Tylenol to be taking. That is destroying your liver. The Tylenol can be removed at home. I have quit cold turkey on Hydrocodone and it took 4 days to get over the bad WD's and about a month to get my energy back. If you have legitimate pain, can you trust someone to give you them on a daily basis or a 3-4 days supply? If you have pain then you ARE NOT an addict if you take them as directed.
If you do want to stop then do it now. I go to the point where no amount of hydrocodone affected me. It took 200mgs of Oxycodone to get where I wanted. That was when I was injecting 8-16mg of Dilaudid up to 10times a day. If I ever have burns, cancer or anything that puts me on that pain level, I will suffer with that tolerance level.

It sounds to me like you need to go back to what worked for you.  Tell everyone just enough to get them off your back.  No need to tell them about before but no one will fault you for getting addicted to one of the most addictive medications on the market today and they will be proud of you for getting the help you need.  You may even be a inspiration to another family member that isn't wanting anyone to know either.  I truly hope you are able to do this for you.

Hi and welcome to the forum! You will find lots of advice and support here. Basically, there are 2 ways to quit. You can either slowly taper down, or quit cold turkey. With tapering, you will still feel withdrawal symptoms but they will be milder and last longer. If you quit cold turkey, the withdrawal symptoms will be stronger, but the physical part will be done in about a week. Have you ever been in withdrawal before? It is basically like having a bad case of the flu. It's not fun, but definitely do able. Your lucky that your husband is willing to help. Personally, I could not taper, and I just wanted to get through it as fast as possible. Good luck to you, and let us know what you decide! Take care! you've made a great decision to quit,

Congrats on wanting to stop and welcome.
I was on H about 15 years ago, stayed off it, and then about 5 years ago I took a pain pill.  Like you, I ended up being right back where I started except the pills are legal.  This disease is cunning and very patient!!
Check out the Thomas recipe on here for help with the WD- Imodium, ibuprofen , and EmergenC are all really helpful.
Post any symptoms and people will give you great advice; this site is filled with so much support. I'm on day 34 off opiates and it does get better.
Have you cut your sources?  Very important to that.
