Hi Angel,

I'm feeling your pain, girl.  I've been there, only 30 days ago!  First things first......YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!  If your mind and heart are ready to quit, stick to it.  Your withdrawals will SUCK if you go cold turkey.   You most likely will feel pain, nausea, dizziness, sleeplessness, diarrhea, restlessness....your body is going thru a detoxification.  Check out opiate withdrawals and detox info on the internet; you will experience the same things, most likely.  Ultram is a synthetic opiate.

I am a Veterinarian and talk about getting it easily!  So I understand your temptation to just reorder it.  I can do it, as well.  They will not make this a controlled substance and the general medical community doesn't think it's addictive.  I got the worst cold and bronchitis of my life during the detox and had to finally go to the doctor to get something to stop me from coughing.  After telling the doctor why I had gotten it, he prescribes me cough suppressant with Hydrocodone in it!!  Hello?!  My point exactly.  Sheesh.

I was abusing Tramadol for 18 months, probably more like two years or more, but really became addicted for about 9 months. I was bored, working very part-time, dug the high, so why not?  But the highs got shorter and the amount it took to get a lame high got longer, and I was taking up to 17 Ultram a day.  One of the main side effects is seizuring, and one night I had a "psychotic episode" where my mind and body were not in sync.  My jaw had dropped open and I tried shutting my mouth and I could not.  I kept telling my body to do something and it would not.  So weird.  Then I started getting tunnel vision and I jumped up in a panic, thinking this was the seizure I have heard about.  I had taken a total of about 14 that day, over the course of about 12 hours.  That was what it took for me to dump all of them, realizing that if I died, I died for the stupidest reason and what a waste.  I probably would not have, but what if I did?  Die for a high that I had to OD to get in the first place, and that lasted maybe an hour?  Give up my family?  For what?  For THIS stupid little pill?  I freaked for several hours, then went cold turkey and quit.

Yes, the tapering will lessen your side effects, but if you don't think you can actually quit by tapering, then go cold.  It is SOOOOO hard and I never thought it would end, the detox.  Then I was scared my old self was gone forever.  She isn't.  She's back.  I could not go with a taper; I knew I would never quit.  The second day I felt so horrible that my husband suggested I take a couple pills and it helped a lot (he has a script but he hid his).  I took like 1 pill twice the following day, then no more.  I still suffered withdrawals and they were very hard, but I got thru them.  I could go on and please feel free to contact me via email if you want to chat some more.

You are not alone.  This is very hard and there is not easy way to say otherwise....this is hard, the detox will suck, but please never give up and know that it WILL get better.  Think not of how long you have to go, but how far you have come.

Sending love your way!

Angel, you can do this.  Tramadol withdrawal is tough tough tough but so worth it.  Using ativan for a few days to get through the worst is not a big deal, just take care as benzo addiction & withdrawal is its own form of pergatory.

If you want to exchange posts with others who are conquering tram withdrawal there is a dedicated thread on Emily Post's journal:-

Posting can really help.

Best wishes,

Michelle

Seizures is a common problem when CT from tramadol. Please be careful. I had a seizure 9 days after stopping tramadol. Please seek medical attention if you have any severe problems or concerns.

Best way to do it is either reduse by one pill or one half pill every week this gives your body time to adjust between drops.
