HAS ANYONE HAD VERY SCARY NIGHTMARES AFTER DETOX???

I am on day 21 from detoxing off the 150mcg fentanyl patch and I am feeling a lot better now. Except for my pain an THESE SCARY *** NIGHTMARES!! The only new medicine I am on is Lyrica 75mg 3 x a day, but Ive been taking it for about 3 weeks. Anyway, last night I don't know what was going on but, I was trying to wake up in my dream like crazy b/c something was holding me down and It was the scariest thing that ever happened to me. I opened my eyes and could not move and saw a dark figure on the side of my bed and still couldn't barely move. I ended up getting up in my dream and running around the house and couldn't find help. I finally woke up and was scared to death. I am catholic so I found a rosary and was praying not have this happen again and no more bad dreams. Well I fell asleep again and had more vivid, scary dreams. They felt so, so real. Ive had bad nightmares before but nothing like this. I am now scared to go to sleep! Please someone help!!
Thanks, Shell

I've had very bad dreams detoxing too. My addiction to speed..aka meth, ice you know what i'm talking about, very different from opiates i know but the potency about the same. When i was forced to quit i didn't mind it i knew it was time. You also gotta remember you were taking the most powerful opiate concentration thats available to man, i've banged dog before, still not as powerful as fentanyl. Its gonna be awhile before you feel normal again and with that comes the wd. Give it some time, i used to have bad dreams that were so real, unlike nothing i've exeperienced before. Before you go to bed try to fill your head w/ good thoughts or memories. Detoxing you'll find you start to remember things you forgot about usually do to importance or likability. Even the bad things unfortunitly, you got to take the good w/ the bad, its life. I'm Catholic too as well, its good to pray it gives the human mind hope as stupid as it sounds. Just hang in there your in my prayers

From what I have read here, normal sleep patterns are the last thing that comes back.  It may take a month to get back to normal.  I think that your/our brain is busy re-wiring itself during these intensive dream times.  When we were using, I don't believe that we were really getting normal sleep, (just me thinking here) and now that you are off the meds the brain takes a while to heal.  I know it's hard to believe right now, but eventually everything will return to normal again.  I can remember some of the most horrifying dreams of something being in the room and I could not get myself to move to see what it was, but I knew it was there.  Anyway, the intense dreams will start to fade as time go by, just think that your brain is getting better and better everyday, hope this helps.

I still remember one particular dream from over a year ago while WDing from tramadol.
I was inside a large Victorian house, and several people either lived there or were visiting.  Most of the dream consisted mainly of me exploring the massive house, which had four floors and three basement levels.  IIRC there were over thirty rooms above ground, and a dozen more under the house.  But the corridors, rooms, staircases, and doorways were otherworldly, almost like something out of a Myst game.  Many rooms had strange archaic devices and decorations for which I could discern no specific function, but which obviously caused things to change elsewhere within the house.
One of the people in the dream was my wife or girlfriend, although she was purely a creation of my mind, and not someone from my waking life.  She had gotten lost inside the house at some point, and I began searching for her.  It always seemed that she was just in the next room or hallway, but upon checking, the house's configuration would change, making it impossible to locate her.  And I couldn't figure out which device would cause a door to open or hallway to shift.
The devices resembled a mish-mash of large & small antique brass and sliver astronomy equipment, distillery piping, steam engine valves & controls, ship telemotors, and were covered with indecipherable glyphs and writing in an unknown language.  But one feature of the house is particularly distinctive; a raised black-marble dias in a darkly panelled sitting room, decorated with green velvet-covered high-back chairs and settees.  Upon   the dias was mounted at waist-level, a large black alabaster basin, set upon a grey pillar made of entwined pewter snakes.  The basin was filled with a mixture of tears and mercury, and served as a mirror.  Why, I never knew, but I instinctively understood what was in the basin, and that it was inherently alien or paranormal.
During the dream I never felt in danger or threatened by the other people, but there was definitely a malevolent presence in the house which seemed more at odds with my girlfriend/wife rather than me.
That dream I can still recall vivid images from, and even smells, sounds, and textures.  I've never had such a dream unless I was WD'ing; I have had violent and inherently terrifying ones, but I've never been unsettled at all upon waking, or scared within the dream.  They've consistently been lucid, I've always been aware that I'm dreaming, and that allows me to enjoy them for what they are.  I don't know if they mean anthing, but I wonder often about it.

everyone is different, even though we have the same symptoms phyically are minds are our owns. I got real emotional, cry very easy, i felt so sad. but then also frustration, anger, just that UGH!!!!  feeling. My skin just crawled. I felt itchy, my face breaks out. No appetite. I am taking suboxine this time. My biggest complaints are sweating like crazy and loss of appetite. My sleep is not great but I can sleep usually at least 4 hrs straight. rarely the same 4 !!

Hi,
I started suboxine 6-24-08. Almost right away I had very vivid & scary dreams.
I don't remember dreaming much when I was using. Plus I took xanax. didn't help me sleep like some people but I know it still affected my sleep. Once the opiates were out of my system seems like I began to dream.
Now I wake up sweating, my heart racing, short of breath (cigarettes) ,shaking. This is still going on but not as bad as it was at first.
I try to think of happy stuff before I fall asleep so "maybe" I'll have a nice dream.but hasn't worked yet
Some are that I am stuck under a bridge by highway and the water starts to rise till it's at my face and I can't move. Also people chase me allot. I run but I am not going any where, I scream but nothing comes out.( Least I know what that means now.)
Some dreams are just weired!!

I too have those dreams when I have no pills.  I have 3 days clean now and am dreading those dreams only because in the dreams I have pills and I am so happy only to wake up and realize I don't really have any pills.  I am looking forward to waking up from those dreams and being relieved that I don't have any pills.

I had the most vivid and wild dreams of my life when WD'ing off of tramadol, although I've had some coming off of morphine.
Personally I welcome all types of dreams, and the incredibly real and intense ones I get when WDs hit are possibly the only enjoyable things during the throes of WD.

Google "Sleep paralysis" it's common in drug withdrawal.  It happened when I detoxed from Oxycontin.  These dreams will fade away as you get over the WD's.  Hope you feel better!

i can relate to you also, my hubbie says i get very agitated sometimes, at times i scream, but he wont wake me up anymore because the last time he did that , i was dreaming someone was chasing me and when he grabbed me i thought it was the person or thing in my dreams and i punched him right in the face. So yeah, now he just watches me, and will comment in the morning "bad dreams again huh?"

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!

I had many visits from Freddie on Elm Street.

It the part that I could swear I was awake, and that what was happening was so real.

After having so much trouble sleeping, and finally getting sleep, I had to make myself stay awake after that, because the nightmares just rolled into another.

I remember I was sitting up in bed reading (for real - I was!) Apparrently I had fallen asleep though.  A strange man came into the room, jumped in bed w/me and I was fighting him off.  I hit my arms & hands several times on the headboard and got bruises and a busted vein.

That's just one incidence.  It happened a lot, then slacked down, and now I'll have drug dreams ever so often.

Sleep w/the lights on for now.  That's hard, but better to awake in the light for a nightmare.

hey shell, that is very normal for you to experience agter detox.  sometimes they last awhile.   BUT, my mom took lyrica for a bout a month it made her have nitemares too.  my guess would be detox dreams....but its only my opinion...the good news is if thats what it is they do go away!!!lol

Nightmares and VIVID dreams are very common. They do slow down after awhile.
