I always agree with weaver I too was on methedone plus for over 12yrs.  before the mehtedone I was on alot of hydro/oxys went threw a short milder w/d from the hydr/oxy. Why the methedone w/d last longer because of its longer legs. It lives in the body parts. SOOO please do not go with the methedone It is a evil drug. I HIGHLY push the liguid vit/min and used the magnz.D,Cal from plant to sleep. Everyone has different experiences but we all went threw it the same. NA/AA gave me a NEW WORLD and a New way to live. I study the map of the brain and the Diesase of Addiction this too has made me understand why we GET OUT OF CONTROL. I had been nursing for 27 yrs and never looked into this. SHOULD of COULD of at 56 I am clean and coming around IT DOES GET BETTER min by min day by day. You took the first STEP. Hang in. Give it to a Higher Power other then yourself, self is what gets us in trouble. I will pray for you.

If last Monday was your last pills, and today is Friday, you should be just about through with WD's. Although I see you used Methadone, so that helped I am guessing, but hopefully you can stop the methadone Monday when you enter rehab. Then hopefully you won't get hooked badly on it, and can just stop with minimal affects.

Glad you are getting help. Weaver is the methadone expert here, but sounds like you are entering into a methadone program, as you said methadone clinic. Think really hard here. You may not need it. And may end up addicted to methadone for a really long time. Please ask them specific plans before you start going everyday and getting a dose. From what I have seen here, days turn into weeks then years. ( for a lot, not all)

I'm highly concerned for you as you aren't on enough pills to warrent long term methadone. I don't know how many previous attempts you have to quit, but around here methadone clinics aren't rehab. So please, please ask lots of questions, and when you see your treatment plan in writing, post here and ask Weavers opinion.

It seems some clinics want to help, and some just want your money.

Is this a new type clinic that's inpatient? Just read, read and read some more. Write down your questions for the clinic, so you'll be prepared Monday. Knowledge is power.

Let us know how the appointment goes for sure, but hang around, lots of great support and advice around here. I'm glad you found us. I see you're in Riverside, lots of choices for recovery options down there. You sound like you want this and are doing something to make it happen. You will be through before you know it. to do this rehab i have to do counseling. an i cn see the surport here im a very strong person an its hard to ask for help but i did an thts a big step for me one day at a time an i have god on my side an the few new people i meet today can i add you as my friend

If you stick around and get the supplements we mentioned and form a strong program, like AA/NA, and maybe an addiction counselor, you can taper off and be done with it. Methadone is stronger than what you have been taking and it's hard to tell how much it effects you until you get off it. Just a thought. Lots of great people here willing to walk you through the whole process. It's a little slow right now, but people are always around.

Why are you choosing methadone and how long do you plan on being on it? If getting totally clean is your goal, I wouldn't use the methadone for more than about 2 weeks, the other opiates will be out of your system and the methadone will slowly leave your system. Most clinics keep people on too long and then the withdrawal is worse than if you just stopped now and rode it our, even if you taper down the methadone slow. I would tell the clinic that you don't want to stay on it as a maintainance. Have you tried to taper down what you take and stop, it would be easier?

Bkitty, I'm trying to put the pieces together, you don't have to be in withdrawal to start methadone, I think it's just how it worked out.

Amber, What kind of rehab are you going to, methadone clinic, detox clinic, or what? What plan do they have for you when you get there? You will have to go through withdrawal no matter what, or are you using methadone for pain management?

Bkitty is right. If you stay on methadone long enough, it will be a far worse detox than the pills you have been taking.

My advice: Stay away from the methadone if at all possible esp if its not prescribed by a doctor. Unfortunately you will have to go thru withdrawal at some point. Its the nature of this beast. Im just afraid you are adding a more powerful drug in the mix. Get some vitamins and supplements to help you thru this weekend. Look up the Thomas Recipe. I know you have to do what you have to do so to speak~but its not safe at all the way you are doing it.

How long are you planning to use the methadone? If you only use it a week or 2, you won't have much of a withdrawal from that. The methadone will be out of you system in 5 days, you will likely feel the withdrawal from the other opiates in a day or two. The methadone will help some with the symptoms until monday. Did the rehab tell you what to do until you get there?

From my understanding methadone is a longer term treatment option where you are monitored by a doctor thru a clinic. You cant take methadone for 2-3days to ward off the withdrawals. When was your last oxy/Norco? Only take methadone if prescribed by a doctor. You have to be monitored closely with it. Have you looked into any methadone clinics in the community? If that is not an option,,stay away from the methadone and try and just get off the oxy/Norco. Don't add methadone in the mix at all. Why are you taking the Oxy/Norco? Pain issues? Recreationallly?

Welcome Amber. This is a great place to come to help get support. I joined at the beginning of Jan and have felt so very much at home, and everyone here encouraged me through detox, and the mental afterwards. I'm still a newbie, but if you want to quit, this is a wonderful place to be!

It sounds like you tried using the methadone to help get through the detox of poly opiate addiction. What are your concerns, how can we help? Are you taking vitamins and minerals?

Epsom salt baths as hot as you can stand it help with the aches. Protein shakes are great for the times it's hard to eat. Melatonin is my favorite for helping with sleep. Read the Thomas Recipe at the bottom right of this page, there is other good info in those health pages.
