Temptations temptations....

Day 14 is here, and "Jones" is definitley here with it. I am craving SO bad. I thought by now the cravings would have subsided... I'm starting to get the feeling that this is what the rest of my life is going to be like. Maybe I wasn't fully ready to quit yet... My brain keeps telling me, "only take a few at night", "a few every other day will not get you hooked again"... All kinds of rationalizations are coming out of the wood works. Staying strong every day is starting to become so tedious, and some hours I am just so tempted to throw in the towel. Any advice would be so greatly appreciated. I'm hanging on for dear life here... I feel like I can barely keep my head above water and feel like just giving back in.

I don't think there would ever be a time when any of us would really be ready to quit and not crave...there is no time like the present and we are doing it today and with some help we can do it.  I am having major ups and downs and cravings.  I am trying to take it easy on myself and allow myself to do what is needed...talk to someone, watch bad television, nap, do yoga.  Do whatever it is you need to get through without using.  It will get better.

good advice above.... you have to realize you will have good days and bad days still. The good news is, with time, cravings do get much more infrequent and less stronger (althuogh sometimes you do get blindsided by a bad one out of the blue for no apparent reason that you gotta be prepared for). BUt in general, as the days roll by and become months, the cravings really subside. You have to deal with each one at a time and get through it. Do not give in to them!! Do as Gnarly suggested...DISTRACT YOURSELF when they hit you. Get busy doing something....ANYthing! WHatever kind of hobbies you have...delve into them..if you dont have any hobbies...GET one, lol. Even if its some ridiculous weird thing- as long as its engaging and distracting to you it will help you get through!  Im glad you posted here. Keep reading and posting, and never give up!

hey girlee just wanted ya to know I got 108 days clean and have had cravings thewout
they come and they go....its what you do with them that makes or breaks ya....my drug conslor tells me to be mindful take your thoughts captive ...analyze them is this rashenal thinking or is it the addict in me??/ first its a thought then it becomes an obsession then it turns into an action...you need to disrupt the chain of thought...lissen to some music find a hobby to do anything but dwelling on using...this is a vital skill we all need to master to stay clean ...by distracting yourself you will find that the cravings
usually dont last that long...like 15min or 1/2hr if you dwell on them they dont go away
so put on your dancing shoes and turn up the stereo start moving around it helps
also praying can be extremely helpful...you just got to get your mind out the gutter
good luck and God bless....Gnarly

Its your brain receptors craving that dopamine. I still jones for some pills but we both know that we'd never stop with just a few every couple days or just a couple at bedtime. Recovery is a hard transition for us when we're used to curing all of our emotions with pills. You should listen to your heart and leave your head out of it. Our heads are what got us here & hookee in the first place. Don't give up. You're doing the right thing by posting what you're feeling. I'm on day 38 and some days are ok & some I want pills so so bad that I also want to just give up. I can tell you that as time goes by the good days are slowly out numbering the days that I feel like I can't do this or the days I'm thinking I don't want to do this. I often think about how terrible it was chasing pills & using & how if I didn't have any pills or couldn't get any I would not be able to function AT ALL. I hated those days. Please be strong & hang in there. You can do it. Don't let your mind play tricks on you. Do your best to keep busy & stay out of your head. Plan your days out so that you don't have too much idle time to obsess. Good luck to yo. Wishin you THE best!
