How Bad Is It?

I recently discovered my spouse is crushing and inhaling oxycontins. He confided in me the other day, saying he has done it 4-5 times, once every couple weeks. He also said he had done one 40mg pill at once, one time. I am not sure how honest he is being however, as I thought he may have been high when he was telling me, although he said he was not.

I would assume he likely is doing more than he says. How bad do you think he is addicted? Will we need medical intervention? I think he is doing it every second day... He seems to have a pattern of going to the same friend's house, then sleeping the next day. This schedule has been repeating for over a week for sure.

You will soon know how badly he is addicted.....  once you notice monies missing from your bank account, when he becomes very withdrawn, avoiding friends and family, his eye pupils are like pin points, irrational mood swings, these are a few of the symptoms I went thru with my daughter.  How did he get the oxy?    Was he prescribed, or buy off the street?  The "great thing" about oxy for people with  valid pain problems, oxy is time released to provide those in pain with relief throughout the day. It causes concern and risk when you see people smoking or snorting or shooting pills at one time.   My daughter did it purely for a "high" and did large quantities at one time, she smoked enough mgs. in a day to kill a horse.....thank God she has been in recovery.  I can tell you Oxy is a horrid addiction and you need to have a very candid and direct conversation with your husband regarding his use ASAP.   You need to get some help for you as well.  Al-Anon is a great place to start, a counselor with addiction training would be a great help for you and your spouse.   Please act quickly, this drug and it's addiction will get  out of control so much faster than you can possibly imagine and the destruction is endless. (assuming that your husband does have a problem)

Yes if snorting oxy its a major problem and I can almost guarantee he is lying to you about his use .Here is the problem if he really is  not ready quit its not going to ma
tter what intervention you try he has to want help.

When was last time he said used? if he said it was over say 5 days I would
get a drug test don't let him know and insist he takes it in front of you he will probably say he cant go or not want to do it in front of you .Hopefully that will be enough that at you can get it on the table and have him realize that its a big problem.

I would also suggest you look into alnon meetings the are meetings for family members of drug and alchol addicts that
will be very helpful

if you have any more questions feel free to ask we are here are support as well.
