How do I get off vicodin

I've been taking Vicodin ES for 4 years and have progressed to 15 a day. I have severe back pain and it seems to be the only thing that works. Not only am I taking it for pain I am taking it to get through the day. I can't get out of bed without it. And I take them all day to even go to the stores, cook dinner, and socialize. I'm scared to quit cold turkey as I have ran out before and went through terrible pain, depression. and could not get out of bed. I'm scared to quit cold turkey. I've been to rehab and came home after a week and come to find out I had to host a graduation party for my son and needed them just to get through it. It started right back up again. My excuses to my Dr. are running out and its too expensive to buy them elsewhere. I am also a recovering alcoholic and have not had a drink for a year. I know if I quit now I would start drinking. I just read the Thomas Recipe and wondering if it works or should I go back to rehab? I am desperate! Please help.

if you have insurance/money and are able to do rehab again, by all means I would do that if i were you. Alot of us here have/had absolutely no chance of going to a rehab (myself included-have no health insurance and dead broke). EIther way, you definitely need to quit again...15 ES a day is horrifying as far as acetominophen ingestion. You are frying your liver to death!!  I also took ES and nearly as many as you did most days and Im scared my liver is toast.

btw the reasons you take it, were exactly the same for me! I have a very bad back and hydro was only thing that helped the pain right out of all narcotics. But i couldnt control my intake, and "needed them" just to do anything around the house, and to keep myself from going into WD.   You can get through this though...keep posting! Lots of support here!

Dear Pammy, Im on around 15-16 dihyrocodeine a day. I too did origionally take it for back pain and headaches but soon got dependent on it and needed it 'just to get through' even when I had no pain, I have had days when I 'cut down' and felt a lot better then out of the blue I hit rock bottom, I guess Its because Ive no structured way to wean myself off, I wont tell the doctor as they give me the tablets and have done for over 10 years, Ever thought of pairing up with another user and trying to cut the pills down very slowly using one another for emotional support? Im so desperate I would be willing to try anything at the minute, Let me know what you think. thanks... ps Your def not alone believe me, I know exactly how your feeling!!
