Finally went to doc - starting fast sub taper

Well I went to the doc and told him I'm an addict. He wasn't too shocked and starting Tuesday I'll begin a quick sub taper (I asked how quick he said under a month) I stressed to him I don't want maintenance of any kind and he is willing to let me do a fast taper.  I'd love to hear from anyone who's been successful in doing a fast suboxone taper. I feel better knowing the end of this madness is in sight. Please, any feedback on sub detox would be appreciated.

Thanks Punkinhead (cute name btw) I'm in it for the long haul so hope you all don't mind me hanging around. In the coming days I'll probably be here A LOT when I'm not at a meeting. I know from my failures what I gotta do and I'm ready for it. I refuse to exist like this anymore. I want to live and Vicky said about finding a new "normal" that's what I need to do. My life before oxys wasn't good.. Issues left to fester made me a perfect candidate for addiction. Time to start from the very basics and work from there. My thinking process is beyond dysfunctional and that needs to be fixed in a big way in order to stay clean.

Thanks IBK, I'll be burning up those phonelines in the coming days lol. Did you see my questions? Just wondered how intense your wds were when you detoxed and how fast you tapered? Just curious. Hoping that once I hit zero I'll be able to still function enough to care for my kids. Just basic functioning, I won't care if the house isn't spic and span for awhile (and it won't be lol) but I'd just like to know what I might expect. Thanks again for your support and sage advice!

Thanks a lot sky, I'm going to get the stuff for Thomas recipe now and get some restful legs stuff. Of all the symptoms the RLS and anxiety is the worst for me so hopefully that calm plus helps.

It's reassuring to have support and know that although it won't be easy it will be so worth it and other people have done it and are now happier then they ever thought they'd be. I am no stranger to detox but I've learned (albeit the hard way) what doesn't work. Aftercare is my top priority. I wasn't "allowed" to attend NA as my jealous ex figured I'd meet someone. He was also addicted and you know the old saying Misery loves company and he not only didn't support me but actually sabotaged my efforts to stay clean. Even did pills in front of me!! I finally got the courage to leave him. I spent 2 months this summer in a womens shelter and moved into my own place with my kids a month ago. I have arranged for subsidized daycare and plan on doing meetings every day while they are in school.

I really want to do this right this time. I've detoxed twice but failed to get aftercare. This time I'm going to get tons of it. It's the only way I'll stay clean. I know that now. Lol I feel sorry for the women in NA who give me their numbers. I'm gonna drive them crazy in the beginning lol but one day God willing I can help others like me.

I love to see people with so much will power. I know you can get thru this but its gonna be tough. Having a support group almost like a sanctuary will be one of the key ingredients to your healing. Also, you should definetly start vitamins and proteins now before the end of your taper. (Like now) Check out the Thomas Recipe in the health pages on the right. There is one narcotic ingredient that you might want to substitute with something like Valerian Root to help you rest. Check your health food store for a substance callled Calm Plus. It works wonders. It could give you the squirts if you take to much so start slow on that. Good luck and everyone is rooting for you.

IBK can you tell me how fast you tapered and also wondering how intense the wds were? I know everyone is different but just curious what your experience was.

Would it be a good idea to start loading up on vitamins and protien shakes now? I guess it might be a good idea and maybe help the healing start even though I'm still on opiates.

I want this so bad! I cave believe how bad my addiction got in such a short time. I didn't hit bottom, I free falled to it. I miss feeling, although I know I'll have to take the good with the bad. My addiction used to be music. I'd play a favorite song over and over because I was addicted to thre feelings I got from listening to it. I played music all the time and always had a tune in my head. When I began using thr music died. Being so numb I no longer got those feelings anymore so I stopped listening so much. I can't wait to turn the tunes on and feel that again. I'm rambling now so I'll just end this by saying thank you to those who've helped me and ask that you please be there for me in the coming days and months. I'm ready to fight with all I got to beat this addiction. NA, counselling - whatever it takes. I won't let this kill me!

I am going to NA and will get a counsellor. Both my kids are starting school so my days will be free and I plan to hit as many meetings as I can. I know I can't do it alone. I already tried and failed miserably. Like you said, my best thinking got me here and left to my own devices I'm screwed. Hoping the ppl in NA can help me stay clean and I'm not kidding myself , I know the road ahead is a rough one to say the least. My addict brain is hardwired for opiates and I'm not gonna feel ok in my own skin for a long time. It's a weird feeling, my addict self is scared but the remnants of the real me aches to feel again and to live again.

I did do a fast taper but please understand that I was surrounded, to say the least, by an outside support group who were holding me up. It is not for everyone and I wish you the best. I have to suggest that you get outside support. If you are going this alone and have never had people around you, helping you, what happens after you detox? My guess is that you will be left to your own devices. Your best thinking got you here so please get some help.
