Codeine is a weaker opiate than heroin, but if you take enough of it (high dose or a lot of pills/liquid, whatever) you will get just as high.
A lot of how bad withdrawals will be depends on your age, health, how long you have been using, etc.
You cannot do this alone, sweetie. I mean...I guess you could try, but it will be torture. Find an N/A group, or a counselor, SOMETHING so you can talk to other people in recovery.
It will get better...I PROMISE. Just don't relapse. Stick with the program and keep busy. And when I say that, I mean CRAZY busy. Don't be idle...wash your car, fold your clothes, go to the gym, walk the dog, cook, clean, dance, play a sport, but keep your body moving.
The mental part for me (I was on oxy for 8 years) was DEPRESSION and a feeling of desperation. It went away slowly. I'm over 5 months clean...and I guarantee I'm older than you.
Honey, stay away from opiates...codeine, vicodin, percocet, oxycodone, fentanyl...its' all the same drug...derived from poppy plants mostly likely grown in Afghanistan. They make you feel like you have no problems in the world, and meanwhile your house could be burning to the ground. It's a bad road, and it always ends with death or prison.
Good luck...keep reading everyone's stories on here and please, SHARE your feelings...we know what your going thru...
Hugs,
-Robin
pretty bad I meant to say, not just pretty :)
How long did you take the codeine, and were you taking a high dose? If it was high and long term, the w/d can get pretty
Is this your first time trying to quit? What made you decide you want to quit?
What are those mental symptoms you are talking about?
Heroin is way way stronger than codiene,so the withdrawls may be similar (flu like symptoms, insomnia, rls, anxiety) but the heroin w/d will be way worse, with even longer mental withdrawls. Codiene w/d will be quite uncomfortable as well. It's a drug that also alters your brain,so if you've been on it for months it could take a few weeks to start feeling a clear head. If you've been on it for years then it could take up to months for your brain to heal. I'd recommend checking out an aftercare program to help with the mental healing so you don't feel so alone going through this.
Yes Eva, codeine withdrawals are similar to heroin withdrawals.
