How long do withdrawals last frm vicoden abuse?

I have been abusing vicoden and alcohol for almost a year. I take 5-9 750s or 4-6 1000s a day and always drink beer to wash them down, usaually I drink 6 -12 beers a day. It was all fun until recently when I started feeling sick, lethargic, and unmotivated all of the the time. I am scared that I have damaged my liver, I feel a pulsating nasua sickeness in my left, lower abdomen. I want and need to quit but I am scared to get a blood test and tell my wife and doc. I feel like a failure to my famuily. Am I taking enough to damage myself? How long will withdrawals last? How do I tell if I'm suffering more than ordinary withdrawals? I just want to feel good without having to drink and take vicoden.

Ben--  You have youth on your side even though you may feel very, very old right now!!

Okay...it's hard to do this on your own but that's your choice. I guess you can feign having the flu and get some support that way. You need to rest for a few days and then move around. You have to drink water, juices and gatorade. If you don't you'll get dehydrated!  You need to get Immodium.  Take vitamins and minerals everyday!  No alcohol while detoxing from pills but I'm a little worried about alcohol detox.  You drink a lot of beer everyday and that could be troublesome. You could have seizures.  You really need to address that either with a doctor or your wife or something!!  That's not good!!  Do not drive for now,at least, okay?

Keep checking in...

I was in your shoes man and let me tell you it is not fun.  On top of having to withdrawal you have the underlying fear of permenant damage to your body.  The good thing is that if you give your liver a rest and it is not too far gone then it will heal BUT you have to take a break from both pills AND beer.  6-12 beers is a lot of alcohol and you very well know that taking that much Tylenol with that much alcohol is extremely bad.  Greg Giraldo (the comedian from the roasts) died by Tylenol overdose....He was partying one night at the bar and took a hand full of vicoden.....He went to the hospital the next day (Tylenol toxcity takes about 24 hrs) and was dead three days later.  Once you take out your liver via tylenol there is no cure or nothing they can do for you quickly enough....It is just death!

I too waited a long time before I told my wife in fear of her just saying heck with it....I eventually told her and she was actually relieved.  Everyone has to pick a time and place to tell family and friends but many on here will tell you that secrets keep us sick and it sounds like you cannot afford NOT to quit!  Take a week to get our of the intial stages of detox and then go to the doctor for some blood work.....They can tell you where you are it and there are pills you can take to help improve liver functions.....Your liver is weak right now man and you need to let it heal for a bit......Good luck and God bless!

aww ben, then tell her when u feel the time is right, if ever, but im sure she would be loving and understanding, if u do tell her maybe get her to make an account on here for support with you, we can talk to her and let her know that you commin clean and getting clean is a good thing and help you both through it and then maybe she will understand that this wasnt to hurt her and we can save your relationship :P i know its hard when you are ashamed but really you have no reason too you can get past this, and well done on 48 hours! that is WONDERFUL! xoxo

Thank you for your concern and well wishes. I have not used in almost 48 hrs. I feel like crap. So far this is my only place for support, I'm just too ashamed to tell anybody. Never thought I would feel like a junkie. I am really craving right now but trying hard. If I don't feel improvement in a few more days gonna go see doc. I wish I could tell my wife but our relationship might not survive and for my families sake and my own I must keep my addiction to myself. Thanks, Ben

Hi BiggB, Welcome to the forum.. You are not a failure but you are caught in the viscous cycle of addiction.. as far as telling your wife she probably already knows you have a problem but not the depths of it. the pain you are experiencing is not in the right place for liver pain but it is a good idea to have a blood test done to find out where you are at.. Speaking with your Dr, would be a good idea.. mixing alcohol with the tylenol definitely can do damage to your organs not only your liver but your kidneys and heart.. I hope you stay read some reach out for support. we have a great group of peps here in all stages of addiction and recovery.. You can Free yourself, you just have to make the decision.. the physical wd last about 5 days the anxiety and sleep issues a lil longer although with exercise work staying busy you can combat these. we have a lot of suggestions on things you can purchase our do to help minimize them. You can live a Free and Happy life without the drugs. I wish you well. lesa

you need to stop, drinking and taking pills like that is fatal, go to a hospital and get looked at, they can do it all there instead of waiting for tests at a family doctor, it is dangorous you very well could have damaged alot of your body with that combination, its better to get it checked out than just fall dead one day and leave your wife alone, dont be afraid to tell her and your doctor you are not a failure this is a disease and you CAN get over it stop now and go to a hospital
