How to quit nubain?

I have been on nubain for the past 6 years, this is an injectable opioid similar to morphine. I want to quit so bad but I'm afraid of w/d, my family doesn't know about this. Today is my first day, any advice please. I'm already feeling so anxious.

Wow 9 months in a wheel chair I can't imagine.  That would be real tough.  I am assuming you don't live in the U.S. since it is sold without a prescription.  I too regret ever being prescribed an opiate.  The high was not worth it.  Glad you are done with it.  Hang in there and keep posting.

@Ann I became addicted after an accident where I broke my leg, spent 9 months in a wheelchair. Finding the drug was easy, most small pharmacies where I live it's sold w/o a prescription, real good stuff, I would prefer Nubain instead of Demerol or Percocet (also used these but the "high" is different, can't explain but loved it). Now I regret with all my heart abusing these narcotics...

Day 3: Extreme weakness, insomnia, RLS, cravings kicking in real bad, thought on day 3 would feel better. Diarrhea under control, Imodium is great. So far I've done this cold turkey and I'm determined to stay clean, been doing a lot of praying, has helped me a lot.

Wow!  That is a ton of money.  May I ask where you got it from?  That must be some really good stuff for you to spend that much money on it.

Did you get some Immodium for the bathroom issues?  Tylenol for muscle issues?

You WILL feel normal again.  It will just take some time.  The empty feeling will go away.  Do you have a good friend/family that can come and stay with you?  Use some of the money you are saving to treat yourself.  Invite a friend over and order food to be delivered.  go to a spa and get a massage or a facial.

Day 2: Muscle pain, chills, diarrhea and this awful feeling of emptiness. All I want is to stay in bed, but the RLS won't let me stay still. So I got up and I've been cleaning my room, discarding needles and empty vials, it's amazing how much money I've spent, $60 a 10cc/20 mg vial and it would last me 2 days, do the math. This morning though was so beautiful, never seen the sun so shiny....wonder when I would feel normal again, if ever....

Three hours of good sleep is a start.  Many people don't get any sleep in early WD.  Sorry to hear you overdoesed 4 times.  That is really scary.  You  are going to experience a lot of emotions because you have numbed them for so long.  Be prepared.  The crying is probably good for you.

Well, had to get out of bed. Slept well for about 3 hours with Valerian Root w Melatonin. I took the recommended dose, 1 caplet, wonder if I take 2 would be able to sleep thru the night, hate RLS!  I've been crying a lot, thinking about all the stupid things I did in the past, including the four times I overdosed during this six years, once I almost didn't make it, so creepy... Thanks guys for your support and advice, it's been really helpful...

Thanks Ann, I took one caplet an hour ago and I can't believe I'm yawning!. I couldn't sleep last night tossing and turning in bed, got up and started walking around the house. I wish I could sleep at least an hour. I appreciate your support, God bless you....

Valerian root w Melatonin is excellent for WD.  It should help with sleep.  Are you having trouble sleeping?  Alot of people on this board find it helpful.  Think positive - you can do this.

A friend of mine is helping me get thru this. She brought me a supplement called Valerian Root w Melatonin. Anyone heard of this? I want a bit of relief for the killer RLS and maybe get some sleep tonight. Thanks for the support, it's nice to know there's light at the end of the tunnel....

You are doing the best you can and that is all you can do.

Just don't use. The w/d will run its course.

Take as many showers or baths as you need to. Sit in the shower, let the water run. Cry if you want to, salt from your own tears is good medicine.

Drink plenty of fluids.  Eat a little, a cracker or piece of bread.

Try to take your mind off the pain and anxiety by staying a little active. Clean up around your house or something similar, easy does it.

Call someone who has more than 1 year clean and talk with them.

I hope you feel better. Don't give up and never stop trying.

If you have not already get to the store before you start feeling really bad.
Check out the Thomas Recipe under Health pages at the bottom of this page and check out the Amino Acid Protocol.  Get imodium!  You will need it and it also helps with some other w/d stuff.  Get gatorade to keep hydrated, get bananas and any foods that you really like and that will be easy on your tummy.  You will need to stay hydrated and need to eat as much as you can.
You may get restless legs..if you do post and we can help.  What ever you do keep posting to get support and more info as you need it.
I forgot I had this it may have double info, but too lazy to do more than repost it!!!

I kept telling myself...YOU HAVE the FLU!  It will be over and I will feel so much better.  My brain seemed to get that and settled down a little.  It is hard, but doable!  The Thomas Recipe (bottom of the page under Health Pages as Gnarly said will help.  I did not to the tranquilizers and had to cut back on the Ltryosine, but the rest really helped.  Imodium, Imodium, Imodium (liquid or pills if the liquid can't be found or you can't swallow it) will help.  I took double the dosage for a few days (personal choice) and it helped so much..even with the withdrawals in general and the opiate trots which sucked.

Hydrate and eat!  Even if it is just a little every hour or so.  You have to eat something to keep your energy up as much as possible.

If you have Restless legs..it is hit or miss what works.  Walking seemed to help me some.  Hot bath with epsom salts..a little.  I finally had to get my doctor to refill my restless legs meds (non addictive) to get some sleep.  If nothing works, your doctor might help.

One hour at a time is all anyone can ask.  After 2 weeks it gets a little better and I started to say, One day at a time!  Your brain will do all sorts of things to get you to take a pill.  I found if I was hungry..the cravings got worse.  I would try to eat a banana, a few grapes or a few crackers to get that under control.

Good for you.  I hope all goes well.  You have made a good start coming here....this site has helped me so much!!!  Keep posting!!!!!

some people do take Lorazepam.  just be careful.  it is addictive.  Have you ever experienced WDs before?

Thanks Anna, I'm actually unemployed. I just told a friend and he suggested Lorazepam to ease anxiety. I don't want narcotics, at all. I pray to God this nightmare is over by Christmas...I'm so sick of this...

Nubain withdrawal symptoms are very similiar to vicodin and other opiate WDs.  Anxiety is a major symptom.  Do you have a relationship with a dr that could prescribe Clonidine for you?  It is very helpful in opiate WDs.  It helps ease the WD symptoms.  Also look up the Thomas Recipe in the bottom right hand corner of this page.

Do you have to work over the next couple days?  Do you have anyone that can take care of you?
