I made it to day 30!

I did it! 30 whole days clean. I've been so happy all morning. I feel like this is such a huge milestone. I also wanted to say congrats to my buddy Dem who also made it to day 30 today. Congrats and keep on going!

So at 30 days clean of vicodin addiction, I can say it hasn't been an easy road. I have good days and bad days but more good days than anything here recently. I'm still tired most of the time. I have trouble waking up in the morning and my sleep is not back to normal yet. I still get cravings every now and then.  With that being said, So many things are better! I have a way more even mood. I don't get so angry all the time. I don't feel the need to reach for my pills first thing in the morning. No more pill counting and no more planning my next scheme to get the pills. I don't have to take a pill because I'm sad or angry or annoyed. I have learned to deal with my emotions on my terms.

I have no intentions of ever taking another vicodin. To all my fellow addicts, please know that this can be done! At day 30 I feel such a sense of accomplishment. My life is finally going as I planned and I don't need pills to help me do it. I'm thriving in nursing school WITHOUT pills. I'm doing well at my job WITHOUT pills. I take care of my family WITHOUT pills. These are all things I didn't think were possible. I'm here to tell you it IS POSSIBLE! With tears streaming down my face, I tell you all that life is GOOD WITHOUT PILLS!

Thanks everyone for helping me get to this point. All of you will hold a special place in my heart for the support you have given me.

Light and LOVE,

Sarah

The 'tiredness" feeling could be caused by low glutamine intake/levels. Most regular, normal, non-pill taking  people (that's you now!) have low glutamine levels. This could be making you feel tired. This stuff is just as important as glucose levels.  In a healthy person, the concentration of Glutamine in the blood is 3-4 times greater than all other amino acids, and is a major r energy source for the entire body. It is particularly concentrated in the brain, skeletal muscles, gut lining, lungs, heart, kidneys, & liver where it has multiple & critical functions.

The average amount of Glutamine ingested daily in a health diet is from 5,000-8,000 mg. Those foods with the highest content are pork, poultry, eggs, & dairy proteins, wheat germ, oats & avocados. Or you can get it as a free form amino acid supplement if you aren't eating as well as you should. It isn't easy to eat properly when quitting pills, so it's very likely.

The b6 in the multivitamin is also important for glutamine to metabolize into it's substrates (Glutamate, GABA, Glutaminase)   properly as well.
GABA is a calming neurotransmitter, Glutamate is a stimulating neurotransmitter, while Glutamine is a modulator of the inhibitory & excitatory activity of the other two.

Glutamine is highly concentrated in the brain, is an important fuel for the brain, & can provide adequate energy in the absence of glucose (the other major brain fuel). For this reason it is helpful with focus, concentration, memory, intellectual performance, alertness, attentiveness, improving mood, & eliminating brain fog & cloudiness.

It sounds like a chore, but it's really just making sure you are eating a healthy diet, and if not, taking a concentrated supplement.

Something to consider if your tiredness continues.

Thanks again everyone. I just wanted to let you all also know that I go to a therapist once a week as my after care. It's been a very important part of my recovery. I have lots of family support also. The first thing i did was tell everyone. That gave me accountability. I even told my job which is big since I work for a fire department. They were very supportive. Good luck everyone!

Thank you everyone! You all put me in an even better mood. My boyfriend is taking me out to celebrate tonight. I get to pick what we do! It will be my first real time going out sober. It makes me a little nervous but I'm gonna embrace it as a symbolic thing.

As for the vitamins. Here is how I got through everything.

During the first week (hell week) I used chlonodine, phenergen, Xanax. I cut caffiene completely from my diet. It made my anxiety worse.

Week 2 was just phenergen. I slept a lot.

Week 3 began the vitamins. I tried l tyrosine 500 mg. The first day on it was great.but it eventually made my anxiety and moodiness way worse. So I tried other things. Still no caffiene. So I began taking a multi vitamin, ginko biloba, ginseng and extra vitamin b12. That worked pretty well. I also took some advice and got valerian root and kava kava. I take that when I feel anxious. Works like a charm.

Week 4 I began introducing caffiene again. Now if I get desperate, I drink am energy drink on top of all the above vitamins. It doesn't always work but since my anxiety is completely gone, I feel comfortable drinking one every now and then.

I'm going to go buy the l glutamine today! I didn't realize it was so important.
Thanks for recommending it. I really didn't want to start back on the caffiene but the exhaustion is wearing on me. Especially at work.

Congrats on Day 30!  You are going to have to share with others how you made it through you "bad" days.

Do you feel about 45-50% normal now? That means that your endorphin levels after a nights sleep  carry you through half the day before you start having some kind of symptoms that indicate a neurotransmitter deficiency, tiredness, sadness, anger, depression,  anxiety, etc.

Also, what supplements are you taking, vitamins, amino acids, etc. whether from food/diet changes, or from concentrated supplements?

It's  interesting to know  how many people use vitamins and supplements to alleviate the symptoms of amino acid (neurotransmitter) deficiencies vs those who don't, or only use a few of the recomendations we suggest, and compare how they feel as they progress back to becoming "normal" again.

Keep up the good work!  Have another happy day!

Wow Sarah way to go.....and Dem too.....I'm on a slow tapering system with the doctor.....I'm so afraid of those nasy withdrawals.....but time will tell how bad the hit me......They are going to try me on a different med (non narcotic) to help with the pain.....
Any tips for cutting back and the cravings?  It will probably hit me in 3 weeks.....
love,
Dianne

Wow!!  This is such great news.  Yes I am 30 days today also.  Feeling very well.  I have pretty good energy and my moods are better and better everyday.  Still have some craving at certain times of the day.  I am trying to stay busy and let my brain heal.   Best of luck to all and I will keep checking in periodically.

First off CONGRATULATIONS! Each day you will feel more accomplished and each time you reach that month to month marker is wonderful. The tired feelings may be a problem for a while. I've been clean 14 months and still have trouble getting up and getting motivated to do things but I eventually do it. My fiance' hates it but oh well! You craving is most likely more mental than physical at this point so just be strong that will pass. Keep up the good work! You are on a wonderful road and it gets better every day!
