Hey Johnnanwv, You have stumbled onto an old thread. It goes way back. Maybe you could copy your post then paste and start a new thread under Post a Question, at the top of page, so everyone will know that you're asking a new question. There are many people on here to help you. Good Luck to you.
My 19 year old son is addicted to heroin. He has WV state medical card. He needs help, fast. Worried he is going to overdose. He has hit rock bottom. Places around here have a waiting list. He will be gone for a days at a time...Is there any place that will get him in asap..? He won't say he wants to kill himself..sometimes I wonder tho...I feel he really needs a miracle...he has a beautiful baby and a wife who has given up on him...He has stolen & lied to her. Please let me know any suggestions that you have...I don't want to bury my youngest son..Thank you
im not sure if you have had any luck yet finding a place for recovery for your son, but i was just in the same situation only i was addicted to oxycontin, i found help at Miracles Happen Center , its located in Wheeling WV, the place is phenomenal, they treat you like you are an actual person not some junkie, 99% of staff are recovering addicts. If you have not located any facilities for your son, please check into the place i mentioned, I cant explain in words how nice this place is, no money required if your son has no job/insurance, its funded by grants from the state, the name of the place fits it perfect, Miracles do happen and they can help.
Please know that my daughter is an oxy addict and I understand completely what you are going through with your son's addiction, What a huge step forward that he is asking for help rather than you begging him to go into treatment.
I had to remove my daughter from my insurance when she dropped out of college because her addiction took every part of her life, and I am not a big proponant of insurance fraud. It is a travesty in our country that we have such a huge epidemic of drug abuse and there are so very few programs available for real addiction treatment. I have paid out of my pocket thousands of dollars for her treatment, Yes there are programs available thru the state unfortunately the waiting list or the criteria is so very difficult to meet, especially when your child wants help right now. My daughter's treatment was never court ordered which in our state put her on a secondary list. Honestly other than NA/AA there is no part of her treatment that was not paid by me or her father up front.
I hope your state is different and you will receive a quick response to your request. On the other hand as a mom who has been there and wanted just a little bit of assistance, it simply didnt exist and I dont want you or your son to be discouraged, please be prepared it may be a bit harder to get assistance in a timely manner than you may be thinking it will take.
My best wishes are for you and your family. If you ever want to talk "mom to mom" please leave me a note or message. Sincerely, Jeanette
thanks for the info. I found some good stuff already that I will give my son to start making calls. Thanks so much
thanks so much, I will have him start making calls
you can call a county detox to get on the waiting list, i suggest finding a state sponsored 3 week tx center like the one i work at

the only way an emergency room will admitt your son is if you tell them he has tried to committ suicide, then you run the risk of him ending up in a state mental hospital, trust me, you do not want him there
one other option is mental health, call and ask what days they take emergency walking
their program is called smasha Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
then there is always the involuntary committment process
please take him to an na meeting tommorow, find someone on the H&I (hospitals and instituation) committee
the people there will know every tx center in you area, they will know the good and the bad, free and expensive,
here is a contact for your area http://portaltools.na.org/portaltools/MeetingLoc/
each na meeting is unique, and suit the needs of those in that area, it takes a while to find a meeting you can call home, do not give up on your first try
any rehab your son goes to will suggest meetings, so its good to have a list on hand
hope this helps
do a google search for cenikor. it is a free, longterm recovery center...if you have questions or need any help just pm. me....
hi. i'm sending some info via pm.
I'm in Pa and my son had no insurance and got medical assistance. Problem is they usually put you on a waiting list. I learned of something that others have done in despiration to get in to a facility. If he goes to a hospital and says he is an addict and is going to harm himself they will 302 him(that's what it's called here) It means if you are a danger to yourself or others they have to involuntarily commit you for observation for 72 hours. When you begin to detox they send you to rehab. My son finally found a place that had a 10 day wait. It was called White Deer Run and was in Pa. only closer to Philadelphia. It was a great place. He went to a halfway house. that they had to extend his treatment time and is doing well 4 years later. He really should have in-house rehab for heroin addiction along with counseling, relapse prevention and aftercare. God bless and much luck to you. Corey
If your son is low income,he may qualify for state health insurance. I belive its actauly federaly funded. In California its called Medi-Cal,in Maine its called Mainecare. I dont know what its called in your state.
Then look for a hospital that has a detox/rehab department and try to get him in there. In Maine, they take state insurance, detox four four to five days, put you on Suboxone and set you up with aftercare/counseling.
The NA is also a VERY good idea to start.
I am from Canada so I don't know but you can try getting him to a Na meeting and see if somebody there can help and also to introduce people who are trying to stay clean one day a time. These meetings are free and this is how I cleaned up and now am almost 9 months clean and I was addicted to crack and lived on the street for 2 yrs.
How about you? once the addicts stops people, families especially are still spinning from living with an addicts behaviour for most times years,There is Nar anon and also al anon for families .All the best to you and your son.I will pray for the both and suggestions is to live just for today.
