Is taking 2 Darvocet better than taking a Vicodin?

I'm trying to ween myself off of Hydrocodone......also I can't get a refill yet....so I'm using my brother's Darvocet that he isn't using anymore....I have migraines and neck/back pain.....but I also know that I am hooked on pain killers...but taking 2 Darvocet seems to make me feel just as good as taking a vicodin and I thought that it wouldn't work as well.  Has anyone else had any similar experiences?
Thanks in advance!

My doctor has prescribed Darvocet for me as well as Tramadol to switch off and on for chronic pain from fibromyalgia since I cannot take aspirin, motrin or anything that could cause problems with the stomach lining, etc.  So far, that has worked for me.  I'm very careful because my drug of choice was Hydrocodone as well and the withdrawals were horrible.  I never want to go through that again.  Remember though that Darvocet is also a narcotic and you can become addicted to that as well if you are not careful.  The Tramadol is addictive as well.  That's why I switch off and on and I go many days in between without having to take anything.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is be very careful!  I agree that if you are already out, you might as well quit now and not go through the withdrawals again!

Good luck!!!

if ur taking them even when ur not in pain, then u have a prob for sure. i think its great tho that u realize it now and admit it now.

honestly, cant u try and get off them before u end up like the other people on here..........next think u know u will be taking percs because vics dont work for u anymore....then, u will be on oxy because the percs dont work anymore...and are costing too much....then, you will start snorting oxy because taking them by mouth isnt quite working well enough....

next thing u know u will be on here asking questions about suboxone, methadone, tapering, the thomas recipe, RLS and withdrawls.  i just dont wanna see that happen to u. i watch it everyday with my bf and it is soooooooooo bad. ok, not everyday. but the days he is outta stuff.

if u see u have a prob now, which u do, stop it before it gets ridiculous.

I am of small stature.....maybe this is why they are working as you said Eagle....I want to quit all but sometimes my pain ( from Headaches, etc...) is soo bad that I can't stand it (and I have to go to work, I'm a single mom) but then again, I notice that I'm taking these painkillers even when I'm not in "pain".....it's like a neverending cycle.....I feel happy on them and "normal" but then I know they totally are not good for me at all.
thanks to all who commented, your words are of great help to me and I just need to ween myself off slowly I suppose.....part of me doesn't want to though...and that's the "real problem"

Everybody is correct. You already have a pain pill (narcotic) problem. Even if a couple Darvocet (pretty low rent pain meds) have helped you, why continue a pain pill merry-go-round? Things like this are pretty predictable after you've seen them. You will continue to use the narcotics for headaches (or whatever) until you really bottom out on them. May happen in two months or it may take two years for you. But it is as good as written in stone unless you make some changes. I am thinking that maybe youre screen name has some clue for you, tinyjenny. Body mass will affect your pain meds. If you are of small stature that is probably why the darvocets have worked well for you. But you have a much worse and more deadly problem than headaches and neck pain. Addiction should just be classed as a terminal problem. It kills you just as dead as AIDs...........

Darvocet is a much less potent pain killer than Vicodin ---   If you have to take something then take the Darvocet.   Lovemypillhead is right - why would you even consider going back to Vicodin (Hydrocodone)?  Is it just because your refill cannot be filled yet?  You are getting in too deep as you already know by the fact you are out.  Have you tried Motrin or other OTC pain killers?  Wish you all the best.

i was given darvocet after i had my baby......and, i think the motrin worked better. it didnt do anything for my pain and i surely didnt get high from it.

kova is right--if u have gone so much time already with no vics, maybe try and continue that progress!

Hi.  i've never taken darvocet but my question to you is, how long has it been since you've taken hydros?  if you've gone through a certain amount of withdrawal already, are you sure you want to get that refill rather than just sticking it out?
