the above advice is very good in regards to a taper...it's difficult to do on your own. i couldn't do it on my own...had to have someone hold them for me. it was hell and i really made that person feel like **** at times. i won't forgive myself for it. but i did it. i know i couldn't have done it on my own, though. is there someone close to you that you trust enough to help you with that?

oxycontine is time released...not the best to taper with but u can c how it goes since u have been chewing them as it breaks the time release seal...15 80 mg pills a day?  just making sure i read that correctly..bt u got down and stablilized at a lower dose?? what was that dose?  tapering down can be done..most can not do it holding their own pills...if u decide to do it that way have a plan B in case u cheat and end up right back at square one...some can taper successfully//most can not while their pills are close by..ct is almost impossible with pills near by..well staying clean in general is not usually compatible with pills near by
there is an article on tapering in the health pages...small doses spread out thru the day is the key..the thomas recipe can also help u now as well as other info in the health pages///writing out a taper, handing ur pills to a trusted friend, sticking to it, picking a quit day and then cutting off ur supply for good are often parts of a successful taper..be safe and keep posting..great place to as the forum has lots of support..aftercare is important and dont leave it out if at all possible....keep posting

I do admit it sounds like a high amt. to detox from, I still say it is not impossible but I think I would try to tapper very slowly.  Stay determined to the tapper, and stick with it.  I was able to tapper, I had too,  but I did it.  You are taking alot of mg's tho so I think it will be harder to do but still doable.   I think I sure would break those puppies in half and try that first.  It has got to be doable!  Why on god's green earth would a dr. put you on 80's ?  Beats me!!!  I guarantee you that if these dr.'s were put on these kinds of dosages they would have a greater understanding of addiction within 2 mos. time!!
Please be careful and stay determinded whatever way you decide to go with.
Yes, there is always a phychological dependence with any opiate,  craving is part of the recovery process and can last a long time and everyone should know abt. it.

Hmm You want to taper ?? Well I wish I could help but someone that has tapered will be on to help.. I have no strength for a taper as I'm a addict.. if you can get someone to hold your pills.. this would work.. Still wishing you well..

Hi Big red... I will be honest the next couple of days are going to be rough.. the adivans will help a lot so will the advil .. I have a friend coming off Heroin that is 2 days ahead of you.. it will get pretty rough.. Hang in there ok.. lots of hot showers and baths.. lots.. you are still going to be dealing with restless legs.. if you can get hold of some tonic water Quinine is the ingredient that helps with this. or  hylands restful legs.. at any pharmacy. I bought a knock off it helps tremendously.. walking around.. the adivan will go a long way with anxiety.. look to have your worst say anywhere from 3. 4. or 5 after this you start feeling better. You really need to stay hydrated.. Gator aid anything like this.. If you are having problems eating get those ensure drinks for elders they are very nutritious try to get some toast in you if you start getting sick.. sip water the whole time ok..  You can do this.. If you have any medical issues like High blood pressure I would recommend talking with your Dr. I had read your earlier post and you sound determined.. Keep posting there is a lot of support here.. Take care of yourself.. Lesa

I am a bit confused abt. why you picked up the script ?  Are you wanting to tapper down with them?    80mg is pretty high isn't it?  Can you break each one down into quarters, making each one 20mg?  Wow, your script would last awhile doing that huh?    I understand oxys are hard to w/d from, not impossible tho.     Your previous usage has been alot,  I would just try to tapper down to keep the withdrawls out .  It sounds like perhaps you need to take one or 1/2 one to keep from going into withdrawls.   When you jump off them be prepared to go into withdrawl within 24hrs,  as you seem to be in right now.   you will need immodium, as your body will be searching for the opiates and will try to search through-out your body, stomach, muscles ect., u already have the otc pain meds,  get ready to feel fluish for a few days,  take hot baths, use muscle rubs, drink gatoraide and juices and water as you will need the fluid intake.
Whatever you decide to do,  be sure you are commited to quit,  no turning back or taking just one to feel better,  this defeats your quit and makes it only harder to quit.  I hope you will post often and ask questions and someone will come along to help.  We have all been where you are,  we know how hard it can get, and we will help in any way we can.

you really should be in a detox center. even if you make it past the physical withdraw, there's the psychological dependence you'll have to deal with...that can last a long long time and you'll need to be prepared to deal with that if you want to be successful.

i wish you the best of luck. this is a terrible drug to become addicted to. not that there's any "good" addiction...but oxycontin is especially difficult to deal with alone.
