Ladies and addiction

Hello again-

I have been reading a lot of posts about pain killer addiction because I am an addict myself. Satistics say that most pain killer addicts are ladies between the ages of 25-40! At the beginning anyway. But you know what you guys. We are all striving for the same thing. To get over emotional pain and be the best we can be. I have so much respect for all of you!!! I am 31 with 2 little angels 2,6. And when I first started abusing Vicodin it was besause it made me the mother I always wanted to be. I had unlimited energy, Fun, crafty, and silly. I have been on Suboxone for 3 days now. And realized that I was always a great mom. Ladies we have the power to laugh, cry, and heal. We are strong and beautiful. We just have to believe in ourself. Well I believe in ALL of you:-)

have you ever noticed how it is much easier for guys to quit smoking too. i think women are just more succeptable to addictions. or at least it seems that way.

also todays society puts quite a lot on a woman. we are suppose to be these terrific moms, great spouces, look terrific, perfect home and hosstess and also work at the same time. hah- that is really expecting a lot.

it should only be one or the other. i would like to see guys do all that. although there are more and more single dads with kids now. and they are highly praised. but with the women it seems that it is just expected. hah WTF

I don't think the C-Section thing has anything to do with it.  I had 2 c-Sections and only took tylenol for it.  Even though the drugs were there, I didn't know anything about them and didn't take them.  It was years after the kids births that I got hooked.  It was actually after I had my tonsils taken out and sinus surgery.  I was emotional at that time because I had to force my youngest child to wean from breastfeeding so that I could have the surgery and that threw me into an emotional turmoil.  That was the beginning of the end for me.  But things do change.  Here it is 15 years later and I have been clean for almost 50 days and I feel great.

Its good to hear you are getting your life back. You can be the mom you want to be without pills. Just be careful with the suboxone. It is way more addicting than Vicodon. My 2 cents is to get off of it as soon as you can.

They give you pain killers anytime that you have a child in the hospital! That was the begining for me , pills that my doc gave me and now it came down to me needing them to function.

Just entered a post on suboxone and was looking around and found this post. You are all so right! I was taking Vics and Percs and I have given them credit for my fast great promotions at work. I am scared to try to function and be as effective at work without them. I am on my 2nd day of suboxone but have not returned to work. After reading your post though it got me thinking..... I was a great nurse before the drugs...wasnt I ?

It does seem like there are alot of us who are wives and mothers who become addicted to these pills. In the beginning the pills do seem like they make it easier to be everything to everybody but that changes so quickly.I went from thinking they turned me into to someone I wanted to be,to before you know it,realizing they had turned me into someone I couldn't stand.I turned into 'that mother' whos house I would never let my kids go to,or whos car I would never let them ride in.What was I thinking?I turned into someone who I would have never trusted to care for my kids. These days I'm no longer everything to everybody,I'm just a 'normal'. wife and mother, and that suits my kids and husband just fine.I wish you the best.Peace.
