Eye Opener

Hi All,

I've been a member on this site for some time and like some others I've fallen off the wagon.  Last Thursday my best friend of 25 years passed away from an OC overdose.  I'm really hoping this, as tragic as it is, will be enough for me to quit these little devils once and for all :(

Hey...it gets easier. You really can do all the things you did before when you were high;now you'll remember them! LOL    It's very hard at first but just stay the course. This disease is insidious and it's always lurking. Keep your guard up. Change your routines. Exercise!!  I'll tell you, being in active addiction is a damn burden for all the reasons you mentioned.  You'll feel pretty good with that off your shoulders!

Good luck!

Domino and everyone that answered....

Thank you for your advice and kind words, they mean a lot.  I did stop taking opiates the day my friend died so it's like 4 1/2 days for me clean time.  Oddly the physical WD's weren't so bad this time around but I did a Xanax taper regimen to calm myself days1-3.  The real struggle for me is the mental...GOD it's tough, lol.  I think of things I have to do this week, like take my mom for surgery in Boston, and how much more enjoyable the ride up and back would be if I was beaned outta my skull on IR 30's.  It's like I have completely forgotten how to live without these things, and I have to completely recondition every movement I make to not include them.  I have 110% forgotten what life was like not obsessing over how I'm gonna score, what strings I'm gonna have to pull, how and who I'm gonna have to lie to to get my fix, it's an awful way to live.  I Just don't ever want to think of my mom going through the pain I saw on the faces of my best friend's family at the funeral...ya know?

I'm sorry about your friend, it hits home for me too. The reason i am 6 days clean now, is because i know life is going to get better without being in the haze of opiates, i've lost my aunt and almost lost my dad a few months ago to opiates. You can do it too! it took time to get where you are and it will actually take even less time to get clean! That's what I tell myself, and it keeps me going.
