My son in a vortex!!!

I have an adult 31 year old son who is on some sore of an opiate. I can not get the truth out of him and the situation has approached a critical point. The other day I found at least 25 hyperdermic needles stashed in a bag in one of my backrooms. I cannot get an honest answer out of him. What sort of an opiate addiction could require the use of hyperdermic needles. Please help I don't know what to do.

Good Morning Silverback and Welcome to the forum.. I'm very sorry to read about your son.. It is so difficult on the family when we get lost in our addiction. I agree with the others.. Heroin is the most common and cheapest drug one would be shooting..  while using H he would be nodding off at inappropriate times. wear long sleeve shirts if using his arms.. have very small pupils. and if not displaying any of these but is up all the time with lg pupils talks a lot he could be using crank. Hard to say what drug without more info.. Getting a drug addict to be honest is very difficult as we lie to protect our addiction. There are things you can do to not play into helping him in his addiction like not giving money. car. if he lives with you maybe even consider having him leave the house.. usually we do not get clean till he hit bottom and that is difficult to do when our needs our met. I hope you come back on and give us more info. we have other members who are family and not addicted.. You may also want to google AlAnon it is a support group for family members of addicts as you also need support and you would gain a understanding of addiction.. I wish both you and your son well.. lesa

The most commonly used drug with a needle is heroine. If he is using heroine he will exhibit the following symptoms: lethargy (sitting around with his eyes rolling into the back of his head), dishonesty, normally heroine users have scabs or open sores on their face or arms, and a change in personality. If his addiction has gotten to the point that you are worried about his wellbeing an intervention might be necessary followed by some intensive inpatient treatment. Good luck and if you have any other questions or need to talk about this you can message me. I, unfortunately, was thrust into the drug scene by friends and boyfriends who were using. The biggest and most important thing is to get them help before it is to late. The addicts as well as family rationalize addiction by saying that death won't happen to them but the fact is it does. Losing someone to an OD is horrible because you live everyday with knowing you could have, should have done something more to help them.

Hey hopefully I can answer your question. My brother was a needle user. He would use them for heroin, If he is shooting up pills it would more than like be oxycodone, oxycontin or morphine. Once they start using the needle its hard to get them back to reality. The sooner if anything can be done the better. But most times you cant force them. But If possible that you can stop him the sooner the better. Not to scare you, but last year I lost my brother to the addiction. I tried to through his needles away but it didnt help. When my mom went to see if she could check him into a rehab it was to late. He was murdered along with my friend for the oxycodone they had. Please hang in there and do your best to save him while you still have the opportunity. keep you in my prayers.
