Need VS. Want. IBS sufferor

I have been contemplating this as I am going through my WithDrawal.  Today I feel a bit better, but still have a very sick gut.  My gut has been a problem for me for years.  Way longer than my problem with Norco.

Already I am asking myself, "what if this gastroinestonal upset won't go away?"  The lower back pain, the intestoanl distress.  What do I do?
For years, I have been plagued with IBS.  I have the kind that causes severe abdominal pain and urgency.
Sometimes I would get diarrhea too.  But mainly, pain and urgency.  Now I am obscessing over the possibility of never getting rid of my symptoms.  I know I am a train wreck at the moment, still sorting out the w/d's.

As I go on day 3 of my abstinence, I feel just slightly better, (not as weak or dizzy).  I read somewhere that some abusers never get over the Chronic Diarrhea brought on by quitting Opiates.
Anyone have good information on this?  Ammonium doesn't work although I learned something interesting about it. Apparently it is a narcotid that does not cross the blood/brain barrior?  That is how it works.  I think at the level I was taking, the ammonium is not able to help.

Thanks, I hope to fully recover, but now I am reading about this "PAWS" thing and already stressing over that...  That's my MO...  constantly wound up over something.  Partly the reason I was taking for so  long... It was easier to just keep "going"...

Thanks...

Get better. It is no fun dealing with IBS and w/d. When things settle down. You might try a ND Dr. (Naturopath)

Yes, I have tried (I think) just about every IBS diet.

Today is day 4 of coming down off of 12-15 Norco a day.

I feel better, but getting NO sleep.  So, my days are tough.  I am irritable, and my family is wondering what is up.  I am fighting this alone.
My lower abdomen feels a bit better but still constant indigestion, and discomfort.

All I can do is hope to get back to "normal".. I would take that over this anyday.

This may be way of. But many diagnosed with IBS are actually gluten intolerant. Have you tried going off of all wheat, barley rye and most oats? Even Rx meds can have gluten in them.

Yes I have tried the good ones that come in a refrigerated package from a reputable company.  I have never noticed a difference for me.  I took them for months, without noticeable difference.  Recently, I read that even the good ones don't get far enough into the intestonal tract, due to several factors, and that there are certain other "biotics" that are better at promoting the good intestinal flora.  Still learning about it.

All I know is that I am plagued with indigestion  and a bad lower gut!  My lot in life I guess.  I sure hope sleepless is right in that it might go away.  It is not true for my mom who is 68.  But, she did have her gall bladder out. And had trouble ever since.  So far so good with mine.

Have you tried probiotics (lactic flora) it is the good bacteria that is suppose to be in our digestive. Pharmacueticals and poor eating habits can totally eliminate them. If you are going to take them, only buy the expensive kind that has to be refrigerated. The other ones are no good.

Also digestive enzymes could help.

I know from experience (ha) that eating a lot cheese or green banannas can stop you up a little.

Hope you are feeling better soon,

No anti inflams or other meds.  As a matter of fact, my only vice is/was vicodin/norco etc.  I don't  drink (maybe 3-4 times a year), and rarely take OTC meds.  Was taking Ativan up until about 4 months ago, I would say.  But I was only taking 1, sometimes 2 tabs a day, 1mg.   Never looked back on the Ativan.  My doc prescribed it for anxiety, and for an arrhythmia that bothers me from time to time.

I am 48.  No signs of it getting better un until  the detox.  BUT the Norcos did keep my attacks to a minumum.
I have also heard that with age the IBS could subside.  My mother is 68 and still has it though.  That said, she has a different 'version' of the Disease.

Can I ask how old you are?  I used to have IBS...really bad.  Lasted for a good 20 years.  Then...in my late 40's, it went away.  I've heard that from other people too...that when they got older, they didn't have it anymore.  Hopefully that will be true with you also.  Good luck....I know that is a terrible thing to have.

My stomach wasn't right for a week or two. I'm sorry if I said that wrong. I just meant it wouldn't be better if you had IBS or not, apologies.

My fingers don't work either.  That was meant to read...  Chronic, Acute pain-dominent..  not accute.  My fingers are jittery!!

I have tried them.  I have a very rare form of IBS, coined Chronic Accute Pain-Dominent IBS.  Basically, I can feel normal one minute, and in the next, it's like I have been food-poisoned.  Nothing I have tried works for the pain(except guess what?), but I have been able to keep the  diarrhea under control with fiber etc..

Mainly I am concerned that I will be stuck with a worse version of my problem after kicking this.

I realize it's only 3 days, but the pain in my stomach is not getting better.

Its good to get all the toxins out and at day 3 you still have some in there. I would try and I know its hard to just give it a few more days. You may want to see a specialist that would be able to treat your IBS symptoms. But right now its still to early to tell.

Good luck
