When you take nicotine into your system, by smoking or by patches, the drug itself - nicotine - only remains in the body for 24 hours after you last took nicotine.  The rest of the mess is really in your head. :)

There is one step below the 14mg patch!  If you get that one you may feel some WD but at least it will be weaning!  I'm not sure what happens after the lowest patch!!  I've smoked for 45 years and have never tried to quit before so this is all new to me too!!!  For me the mental part of nicotine is worse that it was with the opiates!!  Try the lower dosage and see how you do on that!  From everything I have read and everyone I know who has quit it is the menatl that is worse than the physical part of nicotine WD.  You mentioned you are a hypochondriac so perhaps your symptoms feel worse because of that....do you have any other medical issues?

I've gone from a 14 mcg patch to none, I ran out. Hopefully I'll pick up more, today. I assume that I'll be going through some rough withdrawals.

Hi and welcome to the forum!  I am currently using the patches and just stepped down to the middle one...I think it's 18mg.  I noticed the day I stepped down I was more irritable but other than that I was OK.  What mg patch are you on?  Are you still smoking with it on?  I know when I first started using them I smoked in the beginning and I would get wicked headaches!  So don't smoke while you have it on!  Too much nicotine in your system can cause headaches and nausea.  Give us some more info....how long you have been on them....what mg you are on..etc...

To answer your question yes you will withdrawal from patches. If u stop them cold turkey. The idea with them is keep tapering  unfortunately I was on them but I went back to cigarettes. So hang in there

I really have no idea. I do know there are w/d symptoms from nicotine. My experience with the patches came when I started smoking again. I smoked waaaay more! So, since they are still nicotine, still addictive. They have a taper system for it but besides what I went through. My worst w/d was being irritable. But I had more energy. Maybe you should check with a doc anyway to make sure you're not getting an od of nicotine. Dont know if that's possible but worth a check.
