Oxycodone in pregnancy

Hi! I'm 32 years old and 6w pregnant. My dr has me on 5mg oxycodone 5-6 times a day for degenerative disc in my neck. I've been on this medication for 3.5 years. I know this medication shouldn't be used in late pregnancy because the risk of withdrawal is very high. I'm so worried that although my dr days this med isn't hurting my baby...it is.  Any real life stories or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I messaged Ashelen to see if she can come and help.  Hang around and hopefully, it will be soon.  you can also put her name in the search window for this forum and maybe get some helpful info she has given to other parents about this issue.

Go to the main forum page of this group and by the orange ask a question box is a search window to use to search this forum only.

One of the people that could help has just had her 4th baby and is not on much.  I will see if I can find some of her posts.  She has had to be on norco thru her pregnancies and has been very helpful to others in the same situation.

Ur definitely n the right place.Heres the deal ask ur doctor whats best. Many woman stay on opiates threw pregnancy, some wean at the end, some get switched to methadone(dont do that).Woman who have never been prescribed this med r by there obgyn duing pregnancy.U r not taking a high dose, quitting now could easily cause a miscarriage.these meds have not shown to cause birth defects as for w/d if u take them up to the day u deliver of taper at the end its up n the air if the baby will w/d.Ur dr. will point u n the right direction&u most likely dont have to worry about w/d from this amount.Congrats on the baby.Sry if I repeated anyone I didnt read the other responses

Withdrawal is so scary and painful...without being pregnant. I'm glad I dint have to stop my meds abruptly. I've read that is the worst thing to so and could cause miscarriage. This is my my 4th pregnancy...hopefully, my second child. I have a 14 y/o. Thers a big gap in children! I just want to do whats best for myself and my baby. Thank you all so much for the warmth and non judgmental attitude.

Hi and definitely stick around.  This is the best forum on the internet.  Noone judges here and the people are very kind.  I know there are lots of people who have been pregnant while on oxycodone so hopefully someone reads your post and can reply.

Is this your first baby Desiree? Like Minn, I wish I had some advice, but I don't know about oxy's and preg. I do know your situation is not uncommon and healthy babies are born everyday. The important thing here is getting the right input. I can only imagine the uneasy feeling your having. Just getting myself off pills without re to another life was a challenge. You are smart to hit this head on in early stage preg. Be proud of that.

You're in the right place :) You will get a lot of support. What little I know is based on what I've read here. Some doctors will do a very slow taper so that you and your baby aren't traumatized by withdrawal. Others will leave you on your current dosage. I do wish I could help more, but it looks like you have a contact so that's good.

Hugs,

Minn

You have no idea how much your support means to me. It's awful to have to keep quiet about my pain management because I'm pregnant. I'm grateful I posted here. Feels like this is going to be a good place for me.

Awww, the joys of pregnancy. What a cool time that is. After you get some good direction and sound advice you will feel a weight lifted and begin to enjoy this magical journey. For now, don't stress. Listen to your Doc, eat right and keep your mood happy. You'll get this figured out.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Well, today has been the first day I've had nausea. I've been exhausted also, but otherwise ok! My back and hips have been hurting at night. I'm waking up every few hours and tossing when I'm not awake. That part stinks, but it will pass!  Thank you for asking!

How are you feeling besides worried? Nausous? Congrad on your pregnancy! That is so exciting. Have you ask more than just your ob doc about the dangers, ya know for a second opinion? You are on the right forum, you'll get more advice than you care to hear (hehe). Just hold tight.

I will stick around and see what comes up! As I said, I posted on the pregnancy side, but the harsh judgement can be too much. You all seem to really get what I'm going thru. Thank you <3

I just figure this isn't the right forum...as everyone is working so hard to get off the meds. I posted on the pregnancy forum, but honestly feel like I would get the best real life advise here. Thank you for reaching out. It means alot to me.

This is obviously the wrong forum to get support or info on this subject. I'll try another. Good luck to those who are struggling.
