Oxycodone

I had back surgery for scoliosis in may of 2006 they tried many pain killers but oxy was the best. I asked up front, as I do not take medications usually, if it was addicting I was told no. NO. Now here I am 2 years later not knowing if I am taking my 20 mg pills 4 to 6 times a day because I hurt or because of these withdrawl symtoms. I lost my job because I was unable to go back to work and now my disability is running out in August. i need to get off of these things. When I try I feel like I have worms in my mucsles, I breathe hard, I have gained 40 pounds, I sneezing with no ending and that is scary! I feel like I will have a heart attack. I am truly scared.I have a new respect for drug users trying to get off of them tho I used to think that they should just go cold turkey and gut it out. Now I know differently. I am scared I have health insurance thru Kaiser and my doctor is supposed to call me tomorrow to discuss things. they keep telling me to stay on them. I dont want to. I dont have cravings and I do not think of them all the time or lie to get them but I guess I dont need to do all that. I have been honest with my husband about my possible addiction. Has anyone out there gotten off of this without dying?

I understand about the worms in the muscle feeling and being scard and feeling that you need the meds for withdrawel symptoms and not pain, i am attempting to taper off, took a 5mg percocet at 6 am this morning before work and starting to feel the wormy muscle. hang in there, i am going thru the same

I quit taking 10-12 Vics a day ct....several times too many. You will not die. You will get flu like symptoms for 4-5 days and that will pretty much end the physical part. Diahrea, stomach cramps, loss of sleep, restless leg syndrome esp at night..I got the sneezing too. Some folks taper but I was not able to do that bc I kept taking all of my pills. See if your doctor can give you something for sleep and benzos for anxiety. Immodium is very important. Drink lots of fluids and eat bannanas. Take lots of hot baths. If your not psycologically addicted you may not have strong cravings...you may not get these until later. Look under Health pages in the upper right and read PAWS-Post Acute Withdrawl Symptoms and Thomas Recipe. These will help you know what to expect and vitamines and aminos to get. Best of luck to you and keep posting for support. Corey

Welcome to the forum.
Yes, people get off them without dieing. You may feel like you want to die, but you won't. If you don't need them for severe pain anymore, you need to concider getting off them now. Don't listen to your doctor, some of them like to keep you comeing back.Listen to yourself.
You surely have an addiction or at least a dependancy problem.  If you decide to go cold turkey, you'll feel very sick for about 5-7 days then each day after will get better. Good days and bad days, but it is definatley doable. After the initial withdrawels, then you will get the cravings.
Go to the Health Pages at the top of this page and read the Thomas recipe, this will help if you go cold turkey or taper off.  Ask your doctor for Clonodine, this will help you thru it to. Its a blood presure med used for withdrawels.
Good luck and keep posting. We're here for you.

Welcome to the forum...You will have much support here..And YES you can get off these pills without dying. Are you considering tapering or do you want to try cold turkey..i know it sounds scary but you really can do this. You will feel like **** for sure but it won't last forever..i took about 14 vicodin 7.5 for the past 2 years and before that it was Norco for 4 years, and in between..methadone(which I went cold off of) When I quit the pills on March 7 I was feeling like I had the bad flu for about 4 days and then everyday has been better ever since. I suffer the sleep deprivation still and some depression at times too, but I also have alot of other things going on..You can do it..And you won't die , even though you may feel like it for a few days..Good luck to you
