Your question is hard to answer because it varies from person to person. As far as getting dependent (i.e. you get withdrawals if you dont have any) for me it was always 3 days of daily use and on the 4th day I would have withdrawals. But like I said its different for everyone. If you can go 2 days without any pills and without feeling any discomfort then you are most likely not dependent.
However addiction is different. If you are taking them on a fairly regular basis, say, several times weekly, then you could be addicted or atleast on your way to becoming addicted. If you find yourself taking them daily for more than about a week (if not medically indicated), I would suspect you might be addicted.
Yes their is an Oxycontin IR (instant release), to answer the question of how long it will be before you get addicted, that would be like playing russian roulette and wandering how long you are going to live. I can give you one example of someone I know that had a broken hip, he was given 1-20mg pill a day for only 2 weeks, He had no access to this drug and did not try to find it again luckily, but he did mention that he felt sicker than anything he could ever describe.

STOP!!! STop before its too late and you have to go thru hell to get off of them!! tell yourself, the buzz isnt worth the future of torture.....I wish I would of thrown away this stupid bottle of Oxy 80s 4 months ago, but thought nah, its only one bottle.....ha, yeah, one bottle and a whole lot of life changing pain and agony when it ended 2 days ago. I KNOW I can get thru this. But if you can stop now, you will avoid the troubles. READ THIS SITE! Thoroghly! read the threads about what people are going thru and that should really help......I dont read this site til I do have the problem, and what a bummer that is.
Im withdrawaling from only 40mg of oxy a day and it is HORRIBLE. I cant imagine what more would feel like. I w/d'd off of 4 10mg vics a day and it was nothing compared to this.
$30 pills, whats that, 40mgs? after only a few days your body can become physicaly dependant. mental dependance takes a little longer. then theres always, do you have an addictive personality? some people who dont never have that hard of a time getting off of the narcotics. but if you do...thats a whole different story. if you can do without them, please do
there no such thing as Oxycontin IR. It could be Oxycodone IR. Theres a H U G E difference between Oxycontin and Oxycodone. But if you can skip a day between doses and have only been taking then for a couple of months the withdrawls will be mild if any. Stop now while you can!!!
Good Luck!
Are you sure it is Oxycontin IR ( that stands for Immediate Release) and I was under the impression the Oxycontin the is the brand name for Extended Release Oxycodone. (like every 12 hours) Also how many mgs are the pills and how long can you stay away from taking one before you are on them again. I had one pain doctor that told me that if you can spend more days in the week not taking the drugs then taking them, then the risk of becoming physically dependent on them goes way down. If you can go two or three days without noticing signs of withdrawl than I would think you are probably in pretty good shape. But if you are really taking the long acting ones and only skipping one day and then right back at it then you may be developing a problem. Just pay attention and don't let you use of the drugs spiral away from you, Addiction ***** really bad, but then again so does being in major pain. It is a tightrope, I hope you have really great balance.
