Suboxone Question

So i just got back from my refferal to an addiction specialist.. told him i didnt want to be on methadone or suboxone for a long time... he told me some people have taken suboxone for a week.... taking less and less each day just to get the opiate out of their system then just stopping the suboxone with very minimal w/ds.... he told me i could start tomorrow if i wanted.. im just wondering if anyone has had any experience with doing this? is the wd drastically less then if i just went cold turkey off the oxys? any input would be great.. thanks!

ive been using oxy on and off for 2 ish years.... i quit back in november for about a month.. now ive been doing it now for about 3 months abour 200 mg a day... ive already been in contact with a psychologist and plan on attending N/A meetings to stay clean... so maybe this short term thing will work after all..... he said no more then a week. it will help get the oxys out of my body and not feel terrible and since i wouldnt be on the sub very long there would be very minimal w/d from that... he said it was a good way to get off them without feeling like death so i can continue going to work and school while getting clean. told me though if i want to stay clean i need to work hard... see a psychologist and attend meetings, cuz thats the only way to stay clean.... told me hell get me through the w/d but its up to me to stay clean after that...

Methadone scares me.  It's just so hard to get off.  I think suboxone is a better choice, IMO.  I do know someone that did a short course of the suboxone.  They did not have any withdrawals coming off it, but they didn't give themselves enough time to deal with the mental aspect of addiction and relapsed.  Whatever road you choose, just make sure you research it carefully and know what you're getting into.  There's no easy outs with coming off pain pills.  Not sure what you're using or how long you've been on it; I think that all comes into play when coming off.

Suboxone is an opiate derivative. It won't show up on a drug test as an opiate. A week is very unrealistic. The shortest time I've heard someone take it and be successful is 3 months. There is a mental aspect of addiction as well. The withdrawal while on subs is non existant, the withdrawal from the subs itself is a lot less than the actual drug of choice. I have been taking suboxone (prescribed) for a very long time and I can go up to 5 days without feeling terrible. Methadone however, is evil.
